D-Lo Shoulder Injury

This team desperately needs D'Lo playing the way he was earlier in the season prior to his injury. In the ten games prior to the injury starting with Syracuse on 12/6 through the first Providence game 1/14 D'Lo scored twenty points or more nine times. In the six games since then he has not had a twenty point game. The only other time this has happened to D'Lo in his four year career was the last seven games (prior to his suspension) of his sophomore season.

These are D'Lo's stats for his ten game stretch from 12/6 to 1/14
22.4 PPG
51.4 % FG Pct
42.3 % 3 Pt. FG Pct.
84.6 % FT Pct.

These are D'Lo's stats for his six game stretch from 1/18 to 2/3
12.8 PPG
28 % FG Pct
29.4 % 3 Pt. FG Pct.
71.4 % FT Pct.

There is such a significant drop off in production here that it can't be ignored. He was our motor that drove us to victory during much of the early part of this season. While his heart and effort can not be questioned, the drop off in his play appears to me to be physical in nature and our team does not have the supporting parts to withstand this. It is a shame because it seemed only fair that he and the other seniors would go out with some glory instead of frustration. Hopefully somehow it will turn around.

He's been run into the ground. Got hurt but we didn't have the depth to play without him so Lavin sent him out there for 40 MPG while injured and it has ruined this guy IMO

D Lo's play to some may have seem uninspired, but not to me. He is a heady player, and knows he has hurt the team of late. He has to be shooting under 30% since the calf injury. He did what he could, but didn't take a lot of shots because he is banged up and less effective. Sheed took his shots, and hit about 30% of them.

Everyone wants to believe it's all about the injury and it could be, but I'm not sure. He was playing at a very high level before, far better than he ever had before for us. However, the fall off has been so precipitous, that you would hope someone playing with a nagging injury would make some adjustments, not be able to do everything he did before, but is still effective on the court.

I'm guessing while the injury slowed him down, it's not the whole story. He's out of rhythm, and can't shoot with any consistency. Why else would he come up very big last game vs. Providence with some huge threes, but otherwise shoot horribly since the injury.

My guess. 50% injury, 50% poor shooting. Yea, they are related, and yes I'm not sure, just as no one is here. But to give him a total pass because of the injury is wishful thinking because we like him so much.

Love Dee, but at risk of stating obvious, something is very wrong.

Whitehead had a far more serious injury and had to sit and is still more effective than Harrison. For whatever reason every defect, every pimple in his game is evident and that is why he is not, nor never has been considered a player at the next level. Like Green and Branch, the other senior guards, he is a matador on defense, has a tendency to stand around on offense and is statistically a low percentage shooter. But the biggest similarity amongst them is lack of consistency whether against good teams or mediocre ones.

Forget %'s etc. with Harrison. Look at the way he is playing. Does anyone think he consciously decided with half a season left in his career to stop being aggressive, taking the ball to the hole, shooting the pull-up jumper? He is hurting, has no lift when he does shoot the jumper so he is short; looks awkward and off-balance the few times he has tried to go to the hole. He is hurt, how much I don't know but anyone who has ever tried to play with a sore calf, and I have, it is very difficult. In all sports, but bball especially, your legs are everything. He has played mostly decoy for the last 5 games or so and it is obvious.

Lavin had the appropriate depth to rest him. Should have played Branch more(In games we had Sheed). There were times Harrison couldn't do anything and he played 38 min a game. more during OT. It wasn't the depth , it was Lavin. Branch is a top 50 recruit who is a senior. But I ve been saying this for a long time. I don't know if Harrisons injury affected him yesterday or he is in a funk. He was a nonfactor yesterday. Of course w CO out ,that also forced a lot of minutes.

Agree. Plus the fact that we have no offensive schemes for D'LO. Teams double him and are preventing any open jumpers. He needs plays run for him, just look at Novak when he was a Knick - no picks, no shots. Would Staukas had hit all his three pointers without Beilein's offensive plans?

Yes, you would think the coaching staff would put something in to get him some shots since he obviously can't break people down but then again.......................................

@HowieKussoy: Lavin said last night that D'Angelo Harrison is still dealing w quad and calf issues. Explains lack of aggressiveness on offense recently.

Would make sense he is short on all of his pull-ups that he was nailing earlier this year. Touch to watch he is not the same player.

Agree completely with everything you said, and I've felt all along that he's been hurtin more than he's led on. But there's something in his demeanor both on the court and when he's on the bench that's starting to make me feel that there's more. I'm sure he's demoralized because he isn't able to perform at the level he is capable of. But injury or not, there's no reason why he can't continue to be the team leader. And he seems to have relinquished that roll over the past few games.

Sadly, maybe he's starting to give up?

Maybe he's just pissed about losing.
