Conspiracy theory

As they say, you put your bread in the gravy when it's hot.

who says that ? the waltons ? :)

Is it when the bread's hot or when the gravy's hot? Hot gravy can burn the roof of your mouth, as I've learned putting cold bread into hot "gravy" (you know, tomato sauce) when I'm cooking but hot bread in cold gravy sounds gross. Let's go with hotter than warm bread in warm gravy. Who's with me? Let's Go!

It's obvious you never lived in the South. The Waltons would've put their biscuits, not their bread, in the gravy. Biscuits and gravy, the all-time Southern breakfast.

I think I put on 15 pounds when I discovered biscuits and gravy..and the gravy is white (never saw that before becoming a part-time resident of Kentucky).

While I didn't have gravy down there my last much at a bbq place in charlotte consisted of smoked chicken, brisket, mac and cheese, hush puppies and fried pickles. WTF !! It was so good though. Oh and banana pudding for dessert

I'll bet you could hear your arteries hardening with each and every delicious bite!

If Mullin wants to go into coaching there is an opening on the Charlotte Hornets staff, as Mark Price just took a job. Mullin is still a gym rat, and who better to work with Kidd-Gilchrist. The job pays mid six figures, and of course Jordan has much love for Mullin!

If then he decides he has the patience for dealing with teenage drama maybe then jump to the college game. I just have a hard time believing Mullin who shoots hoops 3 hours a day still, will be able to take kids who don't feel like practicing today

Wouldn't it be refreshing to have a coach on the floor with kids during practice who is in better shape than most of them, and will push them to be the best they can be individually? A guy who can teach fundamentals because he lived by them? A guy who was among the perennial leaders in the NBA in steals despite being lead footed? I'm all in for Mullin.

Anyone who compares Mullin to Clyde Drexler's coaching fiasco in Houston is nuts. Drexler was immensely gifted physically. Mullin had to use every iota of basketball smarts and refined skills to become a HOFer. There is no better example in the NBA HOF of a guy who honed limited physical ability to near perfection. He respects all of his teachers, including JAck Alesi (sp?) who he gives a ton of credit to, and Coach C. (although he probably taught Lou more than Lou taught him.)

I love Mullin, and everytime I see him it brings back great memories. That being said, either we are a top 25 program year in and year out, or we just aren't. All these people who are excited for Lavin to leave and want a mid major coach, or worse a legend that has 0 experience scare the crap out of me. Those that wanted Lavin removed I have no problem with, with the exception of replacing him with what? D Hurley may turn out to be a great coach, but he isn't that now. He hasn't won anything that we should be saying, yeah he is a top 25 coach. Bobby Hurley the same, and the rest of these mid major names floating around. You want to hand the keys to a top 7 winning all time program to a legend who is the face of the school, and hope that he can coach?
I would love for Mullin to come back to Queens, and bring back glory. But first he needs to cut his teeth coaching. In Golden State he was primarily used to get on the Mic and stop the crowd from Booing, that is way different from running a program.
Then you have those here saying we need a coach who will welcome the local H.S. programs? Why do we need a local guy for a global game? There are only 2 top 50 kids in the local area, one from Queens, and one from Jersey in the 2016 class, 3 in the top 75 according to 247.That is not nearly enough talent to try and build a program around. We need a name coach, someone that is recognized...We needed a Ben Howland, or a Coach Calhoun, or someone that is a proven winner, heck I would take Larry Brown at this point for a couple of years.
Too much risk with the other names thrown around including the legend Mullin.

The last 5 choices all ended in a firing. All were thought to be the right guy for any number of reasons. What do we really lose if Mullin doesn't restore the program? He certainly wouldn't destroy it and become the joke it did under NR. I'd take that chance considering that Mullin if successful would bring all the other components of the value that a Jay wright brings to Nova - a guy who represents every facet of the university

Here is why you don't take that shot. We spent years under Norm to get rid of the bad taste Jarvis left this program with. Then it was 5 years under Lavin and we finally made 2 dances, I don't disagree with his removal, just in his replacement. I would hate to see us slide back towards the Norm era win wise. I would hate to see this board beating on him., like they are Lavin. And trust me if Mullin flops that is what will happen. Remember when UNC hired Doherty, and remembered how that ended, and atleast he did well in ND, the pressure turned him into a nut job here. I don't want my legend being remembered for anything but being a Legend. We made slow progress over the past 10 years, either we are definitely going back to a top 25 program or we aren't , and nobody can tell me Mullin is a definite! We need a next level coach.. We need a Jim Calhoun, or a Ben Howland, or a Larry Brown to move us up, and groom a replacement in the process

IT must be me. I read this board and see how people wanted Lavin to go because he didn't achieve what they expected him to achieve. I can see that point for sure. But the same people who want Lavin to go now want Mickey mouse, or some other risky choice to coach the Beloved Johnnies. If you were upset that Lavin only got us ranked as high as what 15, why would you want a coach that has not been ranked that high? If lavin didn't recuit well why do you want a coach that never recruited someone as high as Lavin did, Jordan top 25. If you wanted Lavin removed and he sent two players to the NBA, and one of them a 1st rounder, why do you want a coach that hasn't done better?
If you want a better program you require a better coach, makes sense to me. Larry Brown has done an amazing job at SMU, which isn't a basketball school, is a ny guy, and proved he can recruit nationally
Ben Howland waited to see if there were any other offers before taking his new job, he recruited NYC really well at Pitt, and at UCLA
Jim Calhoun I hear you say man he would make me sick, well do you want to win or lose and feel good? I want to win, and these no name coaches are driving me up a wall.
Then I hear we need to restore AAU and H.S. relations, yeah like there is enough talent there to support the program. What good is good relations when Coach K or Cal show up? They are getting that kid no matter how good Danny Hurley relations are with said AAU coach. and since when should the AAU coach be important to the kids decision, shouldn't it be the kid that feels good about it?

Larry Brown will be 75 in sept.
Jim Calhoun is 73 in may.

neither is coming here. might as well add bobby knight, who is also 74

Bobby Knight would be no good, he hasn't won in a long time. Calhoun just had his kids with with Kevin Ollie last year, and is a 3 time champ, who said he wants to coach again this season, and Larry Brown is in better shape than most 50 year old coaches. Neither has to be long term answers, but a bridge to see if Hurley can be a big east level coach. I have nothing against Danny Hurley, he may turn into a great coach, but just too early

Beast you went to school down here I believe. Do you remember when NC state hired Sidney Lowe? The State fans went nuts, they were all like Lowe the legend will take us back to the promised land.. He was a hero in Raleigh. Starting PG on National Champ team... Well when he was hired the other ACC coaches all laughed. and he built great relations with local schools, and AAU see CJ Leslie for that. and the ACC coaches just smiled.. Well it didn't take all that long for it to blow up, and a legend is lost. I don't know if he has been back to Raleigh since he left.I don't want that to be Mullin

No one wants Mullin failing, but Tom Bradley, did you actually attend St. John's? If so, you must be aware of the tight purse strings the school has always kept on all it's programs and buildings and attitudes. The Vincentian order is not known for its largesse. I constantly see people on these pages wishing for a Calipari, or a Calhoun (God spare us!). Forget it. If my reading of the Vincentian philosophy is correct and it goes back a long way, that will simply not happen. Chris Mullin makes sense as a coach because he has the St John's/New York pedigree and because he already has a good deal of money and might be willing to take a lower salary than Mr Lavin. The Hurley's et al are popular choices because they come cheap. I love St John's but I know it too. They are not bi9g spenders.

Being afraid to fail or tarnish one's reputation by failing is not a part of Mullin's personna. If he fails, he fails, and just joins a long list.

I was afraid for Chris Mullin getting lost on the Dream team: He avaraged 12.9 ppg, 4th on the team of HOFers.

I was afraid he would flame out in the NBA, and tarnish his college reputation. Almost 18,000 points later, he's in the HOF.

I would have laughed that this Brooklyn native would think he could be in a booth with a mic on him. To my knowledge, he took public speaking lessons, and did well.

Don't ever, ever, ever, disqualify someone because you think they will be damaged by failing. Not here, not in life.
