Obviously we disagree, I don’t think that type of immature nonsense by supposedly mature, intelligent adults is ever warranted.
I have posted this before; in the end of the book No Country For Old Men, the lawman, the Tommy Lee Jones character in the movie, tries to sort out some understanding of the events of the book but primarily to understand the lack of common decency and respect that is disappearing from our society. He starts backing up from where he thinks things are currently and finally arrives at the conclusion that the beginning of the loss of decency was the moment when we stopped raising children to have respect for their elders, his concrete example being when children stopped calling adults Ma’am and Sir.
One of the more very simple profound pieces of writing I have ever read.

Great movie ! But , very very violent . Cast was outstanding !’

I agree Logen . If St John’s is going to attract a younger crowd and possibly future Students , it’s not cool to be yelling F — bombs at the Garden or , anywhere .

Families ,especially don’t want those type chants anywhere near them .

Another thing , is since Pitino has risen the Program from the depths of Purgatory , our fan base should opt to be more classy and befitting a good fan image .

Not descending to the depths of UCONN , Syracuse , G ‘town back in the day .

Winning BB hasn’t been our thing for 2 Decades . We need to know how to act with that emergence .

It’s going to be a learned behavior that puts a good identity to the Team and School .

We are a Catholic University after all . Good sportsmanship is virtue .
Could not agree more, great post!

I don't care about the chants with Hurley. It's fair to not like it from the perspective of kids being in the stands, and sure, it's not the classiest thing to do. I get the perspective.

But, it's also worth mentioning that Dan Hurley loves it. He knows what he's doing. The guy grew up loving the Big East and the outsized characters of the coaches. Constantly mixing it up with fans, refs, etc. He knows he's going to get WWE responses in every arena (maybe even in a strategic way to get heat off his players, if I'm being generous to his motives).

I also think everything about Hurley is good for college basketball, and great for the Big East.

I haven't been to any games this season, but last season at MSG - I believe it was during the UConn game-- I remember some fans very loudly yelling "Let's Go Johnnies" during the singing of the anthem. So loud you could hear it over the singer. I don't know if that's happened again this year, but that to me is the epitome of classlessness and in my opinion, should be grounds for removal. Whether it's our fans or anyone else's who are doing it.

Once or twice during the anthem someone yells "let's go Johnnies", but not over the singer's voice. When she or he isn't singing (or playing)(. They do it during a break in the song.

I'm as patriotic as anyone but I don't feel like it's done out of disrespect or anything like that. Honestly it's kind of funny and has become a thing.

As long as it's not done over the singer's voice I see no issue.

But to each their own.

I do feel like they gotta practice at home with the timing. Some of these guys got too weak of a voice and rush it (to not interrupt the singer), and it becomes more funny than actually energizing. lol

This is an MSG thing. Go to any Rangers game and you'll hear loud LGR chants during all the natural breaks in the anthem.

I'm not one to yell during the anthem, but I don't think its done disrespectfully.

Great info . Question . RJ is having a possible BE POY year and his value might have increased in terms of NBA draft position ?

Does that happen or , is he basically stuck at that number 54?

I find it hard to believe there are 53 better players than RJ , even including the European kids .

If he delays until 2026 draft , he will be another year older , 23? And , it seems the NBA likes them younger than that . Usually

Plus , there is always the possibility of injury that could render his position a year from now , much less

I would like to see him return but , the circumstances seem to be against that happening .

What’s your view ?

I think he looks like a 3 and D and needs to improve on the 3. For that reason I don't see him getting more than 2 way. Could make 2x that in NIL and maybe get the guaranteed contract out of 2025 draft. Or he could take a 2 way, be an RFA in his 2nd year but if he's on another 2 way then he's getting 1 year worth of NIL money over 2 years. But he should participate in pre draft, and listen to the scouts and his advisors and make the decision he's most comfortable with. PS I agree with whoever wrote that his 3 form looks quite different to his mid range form.

Not crude, classless, but that’s just my opinion, obviously a lot of posters here reveled in it and some fall all over each other to see who can post that kind of crap. I am going to my first live game Saturday with my son, his wife, their 6 year old son, my daughter and her 9 year old daughter. Both of my grandchildren play and love hoops and their request I go with them is the only thing that can get me to do it.
We may be old school but we are trying to teach them that kind of stuff should be beneath them but to each their own.
Hey Logan, maybe if he stopped harassing the refs: "don't turn your back on me, I'm the best damn coach in basketball." That's not classless. Maybe if he didn't get into it with fans they wouldn't chant that, hmmm just maybe.

If he chooses to be classless, then hey it works both ways. Maybe if he was a normal person then all the attention wouldn't be on him?

So yeah I'll say it also: F Danny Hurley.
Yeah I'm classless, oh well.

Said my piece and I'm done, not going back and forth on this.

the best way to humble Hurley is to kick his teams ass. Which we did. I could do without the chants, personally.

Admirable. On the other hand didn’t you throw a beer can at your mom’s wall when she had friends over during a game or something like that ? 😀😀😀

Oh, so SJU fans are now the protectors of referees? How very noble and courageous of you!
My piece - that chant is classless and accomplishes nothing except making a fool of everyone who engages in it. And you attempting to justify it because of another persons actions is utter sophomoric nonsense.
And you really didn’t have to fall on your sword and admit you are classless, I have read your posts, it is clearly obvious.

I agree with you. Of course, a few hundred jerks in the crowd is one thing. We all could use a little more civility.

It probably would be helpful if the Coaches Hurley/Pitino) etc. slow down some of the obscenities themselves. Some might remember Coach K was a master at colorful language.

There was a kid and his dad behind the 114 crew at the Creighton game and the 8 year old cursed more than Ralph at the other team. Not sure how there even possible. The dad just let him go off

In private Coach Looie had the mouth of a sailor (Coast Guarder) too

Just a ridiculous analogy, an action in my parents home vis a vis a public display of that nature. And it wasn’t a beer can, it was an empty plastic cup.
I guess subjecting children to that crap means nothing to you guys, gotta keep reliving those glorious frat days.

I was joking. But beer can or red beer cup that’s still pretty funny and kinda anger issues. I mean you did subject a church group to it :)

When I played sports I never cursed or talked crap. My dad would have killed me and don't curse at my parents

At work don’t curse or at home ( cursing in Spanish doesn't count because then I'm just a funny gringo )

St John’s games yes. But other than the other day there are no kids that sit near us. Never have

UConn ? That brings out a whole different fan in me because their fans are the most obnoxious ever

And my memory is good when I read great stories here from posters I enjoy reading like you. It was beer can

"
My three toughest losses as a Johnnie’s fan, in no order, was that game, the DePaul Comegys game and the game that my friends will still bring up if they want to see me go off, the Singleton tech game against Duke.
A funny story in my family scrapbook on the DePaul fiasco, I was visiting my parents in NH and decided to stay and watch the game there. My Mom, knowing my big temper and even bigger mouth, begged me to behave as she was having a church group over. As the game got down to the short hairs I started pacing and muttering to myself. The muttering went up in volume as Terry Bross did his thing and as Comegys was at the line I just kept saying out loud, “just box, you just have to box“ about 10 times. When he SO jumped the gun and scored with no call, I took the empty beer can I was holding, fired it against the wall, screaming epithet's laced with MF’s like I was being paid by the syllable.
I came back to reality only to hear my Mom open the door to their downstairs bar/ game room, I started apologizing profusely when one of her church friends stuck her head in the doorway and said something to the effect of “don’t worry, your mom warned us that from the start of the game to the end, we were more than likely going to be entertained by tirades that would make seamen blush.”
She turned away but came right back, and this I remember verbatim, with a classic ball busting look on her face said “I guess your team lost.”

Yes. I went to class with a guy on the ‘85 team who told me the players use to laugh at TV Looie and in private Looie. 😂

Look we all have our moments. Crowd stuff is unfortunate. All I can say is I don’t do it. Years ago my father took me to a Mets Game. In frustration I yelled something. Well the old man didn’t like it. He pulled me over whispered in my ear and said if I “embarrassed” him again we would leave the game and then insert a foot somewhere when we got home. The END of my outbursts. Problem solved.
