Connecticut (MSG), Sat., Feb. 3, 12 NOON, FOX

Every time Roamer posts I think of a young teenage mjmaherjr stunned at MSG seeing Bob Backlund lose the title to Iron in the camel clutch. mjmaherjr turned to wine coolers after losing that piece of his wrestling childhood fandom at 13
Was teenage mjmaher speaking in the third person back then, or is this just a recent elitist marrilac2 man crush?

Wine coolers? Zima Warrior Princess. 😂

Our offense for most part has been reduced to two guys, Joel & Jannis. A few guys have to step up to make it harder for teams to defend us. Not sure who though. The absence of legit perimeter threats beyond Jenkins is tough to overcome.
100% agreed. ’ll also add, I think Alleyne, dingle, and Taylor/ledlum could be perimeter threats but our offense hasn’t been conducive to getting anyone open looks from 3. There’s no inside/outside game; no drive and kick; and no ball movement in the perimeter. Everything has been pick and roll, post up, or 1on1/driving into traffic.

Agreed. When we went on our mini-run, before the losing streak, we had contributions from Ledlum, Alleyne, Luis and Brady , the last one adding a new element that kept defenses more honest. That kind of rounded offense is what looked so promising. Haven't seen it really since.

Alleyne averaged 11 ppg and shot 40.8% from 3 for a top 25 ACC team that was much better than this squad. The year after he averaged 10 and 37% for the ACC champs. He’s getting less minutes and touches than he did for the national champs who had two NBA picks at his position.

He’s gotten less than 10 very good looks from 3 all season and they usually come from Taylor or off an offensive rebound.

We’ve completed wasted him on offense turning him into a guy who has to create on his own. We’ve completely wasted Brady. Every shot the kid takes is either rushed or off the bounce. We’ve wasted Conway. Conway is shooting 20% from 3 after shooting 38% last year and 36.1% for his career.

I don’t think we’ve run a single set play to get a shooter a three all year. We don’t have a PG to drive and kick either.

I agree with this Marillac. What’s confusing to me is that Pitino is a Hall of Fame coach and he doesn’t know how to use these guys. I don’t understand. If we can see this then he can definitely see it. Something doesn’t add up.

The Reference to WWG wrestling at MSG prodded a memory .
Bob Backlund was wrestling George the Animal Steele for the title . George did all his antics before the bell rang , showing his green tongue , chewing the buckles on the Ring , etc .

Anyway , the bell rings and the Animal comes out and tries to get Backlund in his Arm bar submission move .
Backlund counters and gets George to the mat and pins him in like 2O seconds . Match over

The Animal is in a rage. . The Crowd is stunned and Backlund is being interviewed by Mean Gene Oakerlund .

No one believes it was over so quick .

Here’s what I don’t get….. weren’t all these kids good shooters at their prior schools? Pitino prioritized shooting. Do you think the upgrade in competition, going against better athletes has made it more difficult to shoot? Maybe Pitino is in a sense having to adjust as well to create more open looks. At Iona, Jenkins and Clayton were superior players in that league who were able to create their own shots.
Enjoy the game on Saturday . Nice family outing you hsve planned .

Clayton jr and Jenkins playing together here would have made a big difference for us .

Our last Elite Eight team to be honored at Saturday's game with one condition. Interesting article.

I think Jarvis did well for us in the beginning then at the end got extremly lazy recruiting wise and thought he was too good for that. But he will also be in attendance which is a classy move by the University and Jarvis himself. As far as game SJU should come out fighting and ticked off and Uconn coming off a high win. Should be a fun game to watch none the less.

Clayton wasn’t playing with Jenkins again😂 What current guard or wing would come back to St. John’s next year if Jenkins returned?

Conway, Taylor, Luis, Dingle, and maybe even Ledlum would not be here if they could get a mulligan.

You’d have to be brain dead to play with Jenkins again after this showing unless you are a center.

Alleyne played 3 years ago for Va Tech .
1 year at UCOnn where he came off bench .
Is the BE a tougher league than ACC ? Yes , it is now!
I think Alleyne was still troubled by the ankle against X . He wasn’t himself .

I have no answer Why Alleyne doesn’t get more playing time . Possibly it’s due to his poor handle trying to get himself free for a shot ?

He’s also guarding the other team’s best player on many occasions and doesn’t loaf doing it .
He wears down as the game goes on .

I don’t know what he averaged at UCONN last year coming off the bench and maybe Hurley gave him more green light than Pitino?

Teams also know , when he’s in the game that he is targeted defensively more than other guys because they can’t make 3’s consistently .
