Interesting article by Lunardi available to ESPN Insiders on a little project ESPN is doing to look at the conference realignment issue and a new structure for the NCAA. They're ranking schools based upon a few factors. In the first step of the project they don't look at basketball only schools and rank the big time football/basketball schools based on an index of their standings on 3 factors over the past 5 years. Football attendance, Football wins and Avg Basketball RPI.

Not surprisingly BE schools don't fare so well, especially when you drop the hoops:
7. WVU (17 w/o hoops)
11. Pitt (37)
23. Louisville (48)
35. UConn (56)
49. Cincy (42)
50. Syracuse (80)
69. USF (43)
78. Rutgers (41)

Not surprisingly Rutgers and USF fare better without hoops. Surprised Cincy does too.

In the quick take talking points Lunardi says they'll likely eventually come up with 6 12 team football conferences and 2 12 team hoops only conferences as the power conferences/teams in a new college athletic association or reworked NCAA. All just conjecture and supposition but interesting nonetheless.

This kind of proves the Big East is a Basketball conference that has a couple of good football schools and the rest are mediocre at best
