Coaching Activity During Quiet Recruiting Period

Somebody's farts above them would be a physiological anomaly and a probable source of social ostracism.

It’s unfortunate that many Posters don’t have a better appreciation of the stature that Chris Mullin earned as the Greatest Redmen Player ever . Nor , his HOF career in the NBA or 2 Time Dream Team Olympian . With Teammates like Larry Bird , Michael Jordan , Magic Johnson , etc . Nor , not 1 mention of the Coaches that Mullin played for , Lou C, Don Nelson , Bobby Knight , Chuck Daley , Larry Bird and some I have forgotten . And , played along side Richmond and Tim Hardaway . [/quote

But I would simply add to the above that we can all be enamored with and respectful of the incredible accomplishments and career Chris had playing basketball while remaining objectively critical of the failure he has been as a head coach SO FAR.
No, not ALL, there are some, admittedly a few, but some, who have a proper persecutive of what Mullin inherited and how far he has come in three recruiting cycles and two seasons with credible talent. A few who have not jumped on the totally unrealistic lemming bandwagon.

True, Chris has probably done the best HE could. But to think that this program wouldn't be in better shape if a better hire of a qualified candidate were made is ridiculous. But I will say that the staff is getting closer to what should be realistic expectations, hope that continues.

Whether or not you like it Mullin is the coach of the St. John's men's basketball program.

Whether or not you like it, baring casualty, Mullin will be the coach of the St. John's men's basketball program this coming season.

If someone can retrieve from the archives on this site the thread when Mullin was hired you will see that he was not my first choice. I favored hiring either of the Hiurley boys but that did not happen so i now openly support Mullin. If that thread is retrieved I bet that one or more of his current repetitive critics supported Mullin's hire.

Mullin was left with little or no talent his inaugural year and has been playing catch up and attempting to move forward each season thereafter.

Any coach deserves to have 4/5 seasons to mold his program. If Mullin does not win this season then he will either be gone or in boiling water,

It seems over the past 15+/- years that if St. John's mens basketball did not have bad luck then it would have no luck at all.

If and when Mullin leaves, whether after next season or in 20 seasons the St. John's Administration should be more interested in hiring an experienced coach then winning the press conference with a celebrity hire.

Personally I hope Mullin succeeds.

So, do you think Germany will win the world cup? Their coach has done very well with credible talent, even if not on the level of Brazil.

All noted and true. I don't want Mullin fired and agree that he should have a 4 year leash. Doesn't mean we can't be constructively critical of the job so far, which if it is a passing grade it is just barely so. Most of my opinion is likely based on the unrealistic expectations I have every time the coaches job opens up. That's why this winning the press conference hire and the pursuant substandard results have hurt more than most.

Other than slyfox regurgitating posts a month ago Pre Heron there hasn’t been a lot of complaining for the most part. Why he brings up trouble for nothing I have no idea. With an eligible Heron albeit missing a big man in depth we are going to be stacked. If anyone can’t get excited about that next year you gotta be nuts. Have a great year next year and that takes away some of the doubts people like me had to some extent even though I will 100% never change in wanting someone else recruiting. But we have good momentum. Enjoy it while you can and don’t bring up stuff from a month ago. The thing a couple people don’t get is people like me want Mullin to succeed. I don’t want another coaching search. I just want to see a lot of effort by more than Matt recruiting

Germany wins methodically, Brazil wins stylistically. When the wheels start to come off for Germany, Low just rolls out different players, when the wheels start to come off for Brazil they implode.

Agreed MJ. Not even sure I want more effort from CM. I just want some evidence that he's learning on the job what it takes to succeed long term in this business. Hope that happens.

Guess that's better than having had Skyline Chili!

And if he had a home brewed beer or two you wouldn't need to even pull his finger!:silly:
