Funny when you think of shady NCAA coaches you usually go to like Tark ,Cal and others as your go to go guy. I don't think Larry brown gets nearly enough credit for being a D bag.

Pride of Long Beach, L.I. He is one of very few coaches in basketball history who could turn bad teams into good teams. Guys like Riley, Jackson, and a slew of other "great" coaches ran for the hills when their championship caliber teams went south. Like him or not, he can coach.

Worst Knick coach I have ever seen!
But was mostly talking about his looking for jobs while he had other jobs. He got fired from Nets for talking to Kansas WHILE THE NETS WERE IN THE PLAYOFFS. Also hired Danny Manning's dad off a garbage truck to get Danny to come to Kansas
The first head coaching job he took was Davidson, in the spring of 1969. By mid-summer, he had resigned. On his "Centerstage" with Michael Kay, Brown said promises were broken, though he didn't go into specifics. Considering what happened to the other colleges he coached at, maybe Davidson should be thankful he left.
Brown's belongs in the NBA, IMO. His "all costs to win" mentality has worked somewhat in college, but has also gotten too many teams into trouble. With a reputation having been earned, the NCAA will always be on SMU's back, as long as he is there.

I agree but the troubling thing with his stint as Knick coach was I think he saw the situation was hopeless and instead of doing his normal routine of back-dooring his way to another job he coached like he wanted to get fired. Again did the worst job of any Knick coach I have ever seen.That is really saying something.
Totally agree about the Knicks, IMO. I actually didn't even want him as coach. Believe it or not, the Knicks were actually in a position where they had 4 first round picks over two years when he was hired, and considering Brown's reputation with rookies, I just thought it was a bad fit. (Those players turned out to be Channing Frye, David Lee, Renaldo Balkman, and Mardy Collins, so it probably didn't matter that Brown buried rookies).

Remember Channing Fry started off great his rookie season and he just stopped playing him at one point. David Lee would start 5 games and a row then get a DNP. He openly went to war with our best player and his substitution patterns were Lavinesque.
Actually the year Lavin threw Harrison off the team brought back memories for me of when Brown coached the Knicks. I thought Lavin was trying to get fired that year.

That would be Isaiah Thomas, who was also the worst Knick GM ever. Isaiah undermined Brown as coach by allowing players to go around Brown and complain to Thomas. But granted, Brown has lots of warts
