Reflecting on the sweet victory over WVU -
We are so fortunate to have Coach Anderson. He is a successful people person. He is a successful basketball person. He knows what he is doing with the players on the court, in the classroom and on the recruiting trail.
I personally hope he - somehow - keeps his season winning streak in tact.
Maybe adding Steere and continued improvements with our bench - and Heron playing like we thought he could - will make a .500 season possible.

All the best.

I am so sick of rebuilds. It also sickens me to think that Seton Hall as a program is now viewed as being in a class well above us. How the hell did that happen???

BUT....I already love what I see from MA and the coaching staff. Same for the players in terms of engagement and effort. Keep it up all season and I'll be happy. Next year, we should shoot for .500 in the Big East and in Year 3 of rebuild, we should *expect* NCAA Tourney bid. Timeline faster than that would be gravy IMO. Timeline slower than that and we won't have a program anymore.

What if by some long miracle and we beat Arizona, could we say that we're ahead of shu?
Shu lost to oregon and mich by 5 but are still losses even though they only lost by 5 combined.
And we beat Az
You want to add iowa for shu, we could add wvu which i think is better than iowa st.

Yeah i know we'll need steeres for az.
Just hope he played some good pickup games vs. Good comp.
If we beat Az think that would change the outlook on this season.

Let me be clear, I'm not expecting to beat Arizona, but damn if we did, that to me would change everything

Willard is gone within 2 years IMO and don't expect SHU to be anything special after Powell is gone. SHU relied on 3 players over the years to carry them: first Whitehead, then Delgado, now Powell. Expect some mediocre to poor years after this year from them.

I agree with Zaun what is the future for Seton Hall? When Delgado and them boys were playing we all knew Myles Powell had next but now who is next after Powell?

They were still picked I think 8th or 9th last year and weren't expected to get anywhere close to the Tournament. 4 Tournament years in a row (soon should be 5) is a massive achievement and they've been more than just Powell. Powell also wasn't a top recruit but they developed him into a top player.

As for next year I'm not sure, but they've proven everyone wrong before and have been recruiting well. Tough to write them off.

As for the topic, don't have anything to add about CMA other than he's awesome and I'm thrilled that we hired him. Amazing how few complaints there have been around here.

Not to continue with the straying of the topic, but Powell was considered a top 80 recruit. No, not "elite" coming out of HS, but definitely ain't shabby by any means.

Yeah I agree #80 is a good ranking, but based on his college career he would've been a top 5 pick back in high school (if recruiters could see into the future). Hall pulled off quite a feat in signing and developing him.

Top 5? Hmmmmm..... Meh. Regardless, he lost a lot of weight, as the talent was obviously there. Kudos to him and the Hall.

As a St. John's fan and alum, I am extremely proud to have CMA as our coach and face of our program. Go Johnnies!

I'm extremely happy with the job Mike Anderson has done here. I haven't drank the Kool Aid yet but I'm staring at the cup. If we beat Arizona, I'll chug the entire pitcher of Kool Aid and lick up any that spilled.

I've been much more impressed with Mike this season. The challenge of a new job and working with a new staff & players seems to have reenergized Mike.

I wonder how much Steve DeMeo is contributing to this seasons success? Steve's six seasons at Northwest Florida State College are notable. It's junior college but three Elite 8 appearances at the 2016, 2018, and 2019 NJCAA Tournaments and a Final Four appearance in 2017 is skilled coaching. Steve is more than just a recruiter. 170-27.
This is definitely Mike's team and his signature offense that he learned & adapted from Nolan Richardson. I think Steve might be contributing a few modern techniques and strategies. I hope so. The difference might not be discernable until the BE games.
I'm looking forward to BE play. I think St John's will earn a NIT bid and have a impressive run in that tournament. The Big Dance is always the ultimate goal. It might be possible if Heron regains his confidence.

I'm glad Mike is starting out well at this new job and believe that he will build a strong St. John's program that will surprise many people.

I think so, he's pre-season 1st team AA (for the entire NCAA- only 5 players on it) and also a 4 year player. He made a big leap during the second half of his college career last year, but still, every team in America would've made space for him. The vast majority of players picked in the top 5 bolt after 1 year.

I've noticed some patterns that I hope CMA can fix. We start off as well as any team in college hoops in the 1st half. I believe we are top 10 in the country for 1st half points. But in the 2nd half we go through huge lapses and this let bad teams like Brown and St. Peters to get right back in it and they had momentum usually with 1 key player that becomes invincible against us. We need to do a better job locating that guy and denying him easy shots. This is kind of the reverse of Mullin and I believe Lavin teams...they used to start slow but then get it together in the 2nd. Now we start fast but run out of gas either mentally, physically, or both.

Another thing that drives me nuts is being up 20 or some large lead, then the opponent starts making everything and what do we do on many of our possessions in response? Chuck 3's and miss 80+% of the time. Bricks get rebounded by the opponent, they go on a fast break and make an easy layup or transition 3. Then we are on our heels and it keeps repeating. We need to stop playing not to lose in the 2nd half and play to win. Instead of taking time off the clock and then forcing a bad shot, we need to be driving straight at them in the paint. 50% of the time you will get a foul called so even if you miss you get 2 FT's. It kills us when we chuck because we come away with no points and the opponent gets the ball.
