Cluess steps down

Now that Pitino is running the show, maybe it would be a really sweet move to bring cluess home to sju in a limited role that his health would allow

I don't know his condition, but I'd rather have Anderson have his own guys and they seem like they are a good unit. Don't think we need him administratively.

After he stepped down Iona said he would remain as a consultant. Wonder how Pitino hire affects that arrangement.

I don't think luck figures into this conversation at all.

Agree. But can you imagine the turmoil if we had bought out his contract and did make him our HC?

There are much bigger issues at play here of course like his health. But if you recall he came out and said he wasn’t interested. Can’t help but wonder if he knew at that point whatever he was battling and switching schools at that stage wouldn’t have been the right move.

I don’t see Pitino at his age as someone who would have been a long term answer. Let someone else deal with all the much talked about baggage.

As for me, I am more then happy with our Coach MA. Thank you very much!

Good point. I forgot he said he wasn't interested and it makes sense that he might have already known he was having health issues.

I thought he came out and said that because we were jerking him around too much. But that said, I don't know the health timeline.

Thoughts and prayers and good feelings out to TC, a real quality guy (even though a favorite of Fatso).

Hope his health issues get better he is young.

When Tim took the Iona job, his son and mine were on the same little league baseball team.

We chatted frequently about college basketball and he never had an air of superiority. He would ask my opinions about SJU players and coaches, and offer his opinions with a directness and honesty I really appreciate in anyone. I'm the type of person that in conversation can shut out everything around me, but Tim while fully engaging me also had an eye on the field. As practice wrapped up and kids jogged off the field, he interrupted our conversation to shout words of encouragement of these kids, and simply by watching knew every single kid's names. "Bobby, great throw to the cutoff man!" "James, that's exactly the way to turn two at second" And so on.
Like many high school basketball coaches (think Jack Curran, Jim Kerr and others) he also knew baseball extremely well.

I remember congratulating him on the Iona job and how great it must feel to finally get an opportunity to coach D1. His answer I believe was honest based on the Tim I came to know. "You know, I just love coaching. It doesn't really matter to me if it is high school, college AAU, CYO, or even intramurals here in town. To me, it's all basically the same and I love it all."

I do know that even as a college coach at CW Post, Tim followed our program closely. I seriously doubt he will ever stop following SJU basketball and rooting for us.

While CMA is a great hire for St. John's, I am as certain as certain can be Tim would have been also.

He looked pretty good in the photo provided above, and I pray that his illness is not catastrophic. I'd sure as heck love to see him on the sidelines again somewhere, simply because he loves it, and it would mean he has recovered.
