For health reasons. Hope he does whatever it takes to get healthy. I know a lot wanted him as coach,

Iona announced Tim Cluess is stepping down due to health concern. Will remain in an advisor

Can mods change this very confusing (yet oddly poetic) subject line?

Poor guy. Hope he gets better.

Shit! That poor family has had enough health issues over the years.

Tim has been everything they had hoped for as coach and person at Iona (as he was at CW Post, SCC, and St. Mary's HS).

Extremely high quality guy who has won everywhere he had ever coached. Hoping and praying there are a ton more games to be coached, practices to be run, and life to be enjoyed. Certainly ranks among the most successful head coaches whose first taste of college basketball was at Alumni Hall under Coach Carnesecca. All Johnny fans should be very proud of what Tim has accomplished, and rooting very hard for him to get his biggest win yet.

Thinking of Coach Tim Cluess as he steps down @IonaGaelsMBB for health reasons. What a remarkable run of @MAACSports championship he and his Gaels teams achieved in 10 years.

The Cluess family has been a big part of St John's basketball folklore for many years. Tim was an outstanding coach at Iona for 10 years and, while I love the hire of CMA, Tim was my favorite choice to coach the Johnnies at the time that his name was in the mix.

Most importantly, I hope and pray that Tim makes a full and speedy recovery from his illness. The Cluess family has suffered more than their share of loss way too soon.

I was agnostic on Cluess and SJU last year. But play this out if he was hired. Unless you think his health problems were unique to Iona he would've missed a good portion of this year st SJU and probably would have had to resign and SJU would be looking for a new coach again.

What a shame. Such a class act, and a great coach. I wish nothing but the best for him and his family.

Amazing how things change in a year. 11 months ago we were all pissed off that SJU wouldn't hire him. The anger that resulted from that snub lead to Repole going on WFAN which led to us hiring Mike Anderson. Think where we'd all be right now if we'd hired Tim and had to go look for a new HC today.

Made me think of this movie clip:

Wish him nothing but the best. He must really be sick. I believe when he first went out he clearly indicated he was going to be back. Hopefully he can get his health back. Will say a prayer for him.

Great man great coach. I’ve meet him many times as My son was the team manager for two years under Coach Cluess. Always my pleasure to shake his hand. Speedy recovery

This one actually makes sense, although likely Cluess would more than likely advocate for Jared Grasso. In terms of program.continuity, Grasso would be the likely hire, but Pitino may be capable of elevating the program to national prominence.
