Cincy Game

Cincy coach Cronin had this to say
“We’re going to have to get the ball inside against their zone,” Cronin said. “We can’t come out and shoot 33 3s. Last year when we lost to them at home that was a big problem. We missed a lot of open shots but we settled too much.”
On Harrison
“He was good last year,” Cronin said. “He’s better this year. He’s probably the best scorer in the Big East. He shoots it five feet behind the line with more comfort than anybody in the country that I’ve seen. He poses a lot of problems for you because he can score behind the line. He can go at the rim and he draws a lot of fouls. He’s got our attention, no doubt about it.”

Hint... Change up the zone and set up plays for guys like Jakarr and Greene off the ball. Make D'Lo draw defenders and dish. Good game to get guys like Branch and Greene scoring. Make Jakarr not attempt any blocked shots this game, just stay home on D. Let Obekpa handle the shot blocking duties. Branch needs to play point for most of the game. Time to hand over the reigns. Greene can't handle Cashmere as a PG.

13 point dogs.

Can not see us covering spread unless we have a great game 20 pt loss could be damaging Hoping coach can pull something out of his hat Still perplexed on what he is doing with Marco?

What Cronin said is not a secret. Every team that plays us wants to make somebody other then Harrison to beat them. Lucky for them, they'll be able to score inside and outside.

I don't see a way we don't cover the spread.

D'Angleo needs help. We can't rely on our perimeter shooting (or D'Angelo saving us everytime down court) during conference play. I'd want to see Jakarr playing more down low like he did against Baylor. Even a Jones sighting would be nice.

I start D'Angelo, Jamal, Karr, Amir and Chris

Hate playing CO so much as he kills us on ball screens(both ways) but not much of a choice without Primo. He will take some lumps this afternoon.

Karr has to get shots early, even if they don't fall. He lifts the entire team as much as DLo. We need him scoring 12-17 every single night. He is going to get abused physically, that's not changing this year. Would anyone love to see a back screen lob to him or about anyone else on the team? I sure would. Even out of cappy ;)

Branch has to play a ton. He will be a terrific player for us when he gets his sea legs. PGIV can spell both guards and be a shot maker, but I want the ball in Branch's hands when we wind the shot clock down(which is too much).

Amir has to get dirty every night. He simply has to with the issues we have inside. He plays under control on the break and defends with effort. For young guys, that's rare.

Harrison needs to be who he is, an assassin. He does overplay everything on defense just like Phil without much reward. He gets his hands on balls and that has to continue

I do think Lav is struggling to find spots for Marco. I'm not sure how I'd play him either. Liability vs athletes and can't win 50/50 balls. If he can get in early and knock down a look. fine

Dom is obviously inconsistent on both ends. Can be the best on the ball defender in the conf one night(when they let him), and look lost the next. We don't rebound so it's hard to stoke him on the break. There is no player on this team who suffers more from the lack of defensive rebounding then Pointer.

Felix I'm fine with. I'd run backscreen lobs for this kid every night(even in his 5mins of PT). I think he plays with good poise for such a raw talent.

CJ - well, some would say we are so undisciplined defensively why not, but there really isn't much room for error. Offensively he can help us, but how do you get him on the court when are seemingly fight for our lives every second. He was a nice end of roster pickup that can develop.

My two cents.

That's the starting 5 would send out there...and I would give Jones a 2nd chance (with explicit instructions to be high energy or sit) behind Amir

I see us keeping it close with Branch getting a lot more minutes, Jakarr asserintg himself offensively and on the boards, and DLo doing what DLo does. Pointer and Amir will contribute significantly with defense and boards at the end and we wind up short but acquitting ourselves well.

Anyone taking in the game today? I am pregraming down at montgomery inn on the river.

Question that has to be answered: Where are the picks on offense (no less any pick and roll)?

Have we reverted back to the "Controlled freelance" of the Jarvis era?

Exactly.

Teams are going to figure out how to shade D'Angelo and keep the ball out of his hands. It's imperative for us to get into the lane and penetrate & dish. Hopefully Branch can develop into that guy because our bigs cannot score on their own.

There are plenty of picks and screens. Not very good ones because the kids don't know how to roll or pop. But they are there.
