The difference is, this fight became a national story. They had to suspend players or they would have taken an even bigger pr hit. And it's not like this is an isloated Cincy story. They have -- since Huggins -- recruited some bad characters.
The Reynolds was not a national story, but more importantly, showed what type of vermin Jarvis really was. Remember, he used the word "raped" when describing the NCAA and Barkley, but wouldn't suspend a player for assaulting a woman.
SJU screwed up big time in regards to Grady Reynolds.
1.) He should have been suspended during the 02-03 season when the assault on the female swimmer occured, instead SJU had a faculty member Oscar Holt become his attorney and defend him in court.
2.) Ok, so Jarvis protects him and needs to win and without Grady SJU would not have won the NIT , so he plays the entire 02-03 season.
SJU could have righted the wrong when the judge told him to anger management over the summer and then when Jarvis was canned in Dec-03 it failed to act once again.
3.) Karma being a bitch, Grady along with Abe Keita are the ringleaders in the Pitt incident, now with national headlines SJU finally acts and expells the young man
Meanwhile the victim, suffers a knee injury from the assault, Dave Wegzyrn(SJU AD at the time) and Father Harrington not only protect Grady, but during that same period in the waning days of 2002 it is announced that SJU would be disbanding the women's swimming program literally adding insult to injury in her case.
