Word is he was suspended for hanging out with Resurrection of Joe last month.

Always bad to comment without knowing, but give credit to Lavin to hopping right away on an infraction and making sure everyone knows there is limited tolerance for any of that stuff. Harrison's suspension may play into Lavin's mind on this, in that bad behavior was tolerated last season until it became way over the line. The result was much worse for the team and Harrison, then had Lavin stepped in early and suspended Harrison for a couple of games. Trust every player knows Lavin means business, that this season could be a special one, and that no one is exempt from the rules and responsibilities of being a student athlete.

Sorry, the spirit of 1970s protests just took hold of me.
it is nice to see Coach Lavin have discipline on his ball club and suspend players who violate team rules. Grady Reynolds attacked a female student causing her to have knee surgery and Mike Jarvis and the powers that be at the time failed to suspend Grady for any games.
[Lavin] on Chris Obekpa’s suspension:
“As a coach you try and teach your players that choices and judgments are an important part of life and so appropriately there are consequences that are tied to those choices. I think it will be a valuable learning experience for Chris. That’s where the focus is on, the lesson and opportunity to understand that there is a responsibility that comes with representing this basketball program and University.”
This was a timely reinforcement of the principle established with Harrison's suspension making it less likely that we'll have further infractions on into the season.
