Chris Mullin signing

 Guys, I thought I'd share a quick story. This past Saturday I went to the Steiner Store where they were having a signing with Mullin. I've had a game used jersey of his for years that I've been waiting to have signed. He was a really nice guy and took time to take photos and speak with everyone. Along with the jersey i had a photo of him shooting a layup. In the photo, Marc jackson is quite visible as well. Chris said this is a good photo of Marc too but he's so close to me it looks like he's guarding me. I replied he's just trying to make sure he gets the assist. Chris cracked up and said You got that right. Since I've been a fan since his Redmen days, it was great to see he's a friendly guy.

Thats is great to hear. I use to see him in his younger At Xarverian HS . Often once success comes some forget the importance of humility
 
 I got there about a half hour in, so I cant tell you a total number. I'd say there were roughly 35-50 in line when I arrived.
 
I wish I had known about the Steiner event. I was travelling for the events last week, and away on vacation the week of the HOF induction.

This year, I wrote to Chris and he sent my son a birthday card. Along with greetings, he wrote a note of encouragement, and knowing he was an SJU fan closed with, "Hope to see you soon!"

Classy guy. Its so great that the guy who turned out to be the best player in our history grew up 12 miles away practicing in a driveway with a hoop nailed to the garage. He is truly one of us, and has never forgotten it.  
 
Wow only 50 people showed :eek:hmy: Maybe because Steiner charged $75.00 when most diehard johnnys probably
went to Mullins dinner on campus & chris signed their items there.
The queens event was more worth bec. Louie,Walter Berry were there for autos too.
This obama economy is hurting auto/collecting business bigtime.

Hopefully St.J's holds a Oldtimers game soon to raise $$

I also Hope that a Mullin jersey20 retirement night at Garden is in the works this season bec. it should sellout
The school should sell Mullin Jax Berry Sealey jerseys at all games anyway :pinch:

Let's also celebrate others that were great St. John's players during their respective tenures.

I always liked Sonny (as in money) Dove - who began to do radio broadcasts for the Redmen and apparently was getting his life into an upward swing - when tragedy struck as he was driving a taxi at night to earn $$$ and his car went into the Gowanis Canal. Some of my memories might not be 100 correct but I specifically recall him broadcasting on the radio one night and the next night he was gone. 

I guess one could make a case that the Dove tragedy was on a par with Malik Sealy's. Two good guys dying much too early.

You're right about Sonny, my all-time favorite Redmen. Unlike Malik, Sonny made a number of costly mistakes that impacted his career and his personal life, but he finally turned his life around and had reconnected with the St. John's family, including doing games on radio and, if I'm not mistaken, working on getting his degree at the time of his accident.Terrible tragedy and a horrible, horrible death on a cold and icy winters night. (Have the classic Daily News backpage photo of him out-rebounding two Cincinnati players in the semis of the memorable 1964 Holiday Festival the hanging in my apartment, so not a day goes by that I don't think of him and just how great a player he was.)
