Changing the Distance of the 3 Point Line?

It was reported on ESPN this afternoon that the NCAA is considering moving the 3 point line back to the international distance (a little over 22 feet).

If approved, it would take effect next season
I think it's a great idea and a long time coming
What do you think?

I think that is a great idea. In my opinion the current college game has too many possessions where guys run down the court and run for the 3 point line. Threes are fine, I just think it’s reached the saturation point where it hurts the game.

NBA court and NCAA court are same length. International is shorter. If the 3pt line is going to matchup (which I think it should) then it should be NBA.

I'm in favor as well for moving 3 pt line to match NBA distance. Just makes sense to be consistent since other dimensions same.

Now, if they could just figure out how to not kill the game with all the late game soft fouls to stop clock and draw players to line, it would improve game flow.

I think we will get here eventually. I just don't want to go to Qtrs, back to 6 fouls, or a 24 second shot clock.

Only if they lengthen the game to 48 minutes...and increase scholarships to 15 from 13....and while they are at it, get rid of aluminum bats in college baseball.

I recall the Big East had a 6 foul rule back in the 80s maybe?
And I think other conference coaches used that against us in recruiting, calling us a ‘bruisers’ league!
If it applies to all conferences then yeah good idea.
Otherwise, we’re asking for trouble again imo.

I would like to see three point line moved to NBA line. Accomplishes two things: will make three ball slightly less dominant and will better prepare those who go to NBA for three ball there.
Regarding 6 fouls, I'd prefer to leave it at 5 but stop calling ticky tack fouls that are ruining the flow of college game.

The problem with 'ticky-tack' fouls is that they're part of human nature. Refs will continue to call them. Lol.
I like the 6 foul idea if it'd be unveiled for all conferences.
And totally agree about the 3-pt shot being moved back to NBA distances.
Not sure about resetting the clock to 20-seconds after a rebound.
Would that neutralize the 40 MOH tactics in CMA's system?
Or would it make other offense more hurried, which might be good for us.
Dunno.
Just noodling.

Yep on the six fouls, but in the late 80s/early 90s (Sealy era) I believe.
Lots of bball people felt the BE was at a disadvantage in out of conference games with the 6-foul mindset in 5-foul games.

Disagree. The way college refs are calling games 6 fouls not only matches the NBA but allows the players more freedom in the college game to prepare for the next level. Only negative I can think of is longer drawn out games possibly. Of course the alternative is fixing the officiating problem but not holding my breath

Not necessarily true at all. All you have to do is watch Big East (and other college games) from 5 years ago to see the marked difference in how games are being refereed. As with the NBA, the refs have gone to calling fouls on the slightest contact that they never used to call, making for a far less physical game and a parade to the free throw line with referees deciding the outcome of far too any games. No reason that can't change and in my opinion (and I don't think I'm alone here), it should. The increase in fouls has been the result of intentionally calling the game tighter to favor the offense and increase scoring, but imho has gone too far. Realize others may disagree but we're all entitled to our opinion; it's mine that games have become too long and plagued by too many trips to the foul line.

I’m all for moving the 3 point line back, and feel that it should go to the NBA distance.

How many times in the college game (and pro game, see the Houston Rockets) have we seen a 3 on 1 fast break. Traditionally, you drive the ball, force the defender to commit, then score an easy layup. Now, the other 2 offensive players without the ball run to the corner or pull up at the 3 point line on the wing.

I hate this! The analytics tells you it is a good move. I just think that something in the purity of the game is lost. Kind of like the shift in baseball.

K yes. I recall that as well. But it' a good idea if effective for all of Div 1 hoops. Neutralizes the effect of refs to call games tighter in the waning minutes.
If effective last year, might've reduced Clark fouling out of games last year by maybe a third? Lol.

Oh no doubt, they shouldn't call games so tight, especially in the waning minutes.
I don't follow pro hoops, but as far as i can recall back--at least the past few years(lol)--refs have always called games tighter at the end, maybe to favor elite programs, or the home crowd? Dunno. But they have.
That's why 6 fouls would be a good idea, imo.

Chicago, I'm not talking about the end of the game, I'm talking about changes in allowing less contact throughout the game. That has been a change in both pro and college games over last 5-10 years and I don't think a good one, but that is just my view. As far as end of the game, there has always been a perception that at the end of the NBA game, refs actually call the game a little looser so as not to let the whistle decide the game. But that's a completely different issue than what I was getting at.

Oops I see that now. Sorry NCJ that I missed your original point.
Let's just say you have more faith in the 'human nature' of refs than I do. Lol.
