SHU has more skilled bigs on this year's team than we've had in our last 20 yrs prob. I don't know why we schedule Wagner so much...they're a major pest. Why not schedule Marist? Obviously you want some legit games but some cupcakes too. Wagner hangs around a lot.
Who said that? Wagner is a decent team...give them credit. We won't have many easy wins this year because we're rebuilding.
you could be right, but we haven't even played one game in anger yet and you're thinking Wagner is going to give us a lot of trouble? Step back from the ledge, at least for now.:) ;)
Not sure what your expectations are this year but I think we win 13 or 14 games. The Big East is nuts this year. We have a totally new coach and many mid major players filling in around the core of Steere, LJ, and Heron. Williams can take the next step, but he has a bad back. I'm also worried about Heron tweaking his groin like he did already in the exhibition. I don't think this is a year we will run away from mid majors in OOC every game. I think we will have our hands full with the Wagner's of the world and hopefully ultimately win but it surely will not be easy or pretty. We will have plenty of games where we lose by 20+ IMO. Just not enough talent overall after LJ and Fig. But that's ok, I've accepted what this year is. I just want to see improvement throughout the season, a real plan, and real development.
I have very high expectations. i think we beat Wagner, everything else is gravy.

Honestly, can you wait till we've played a game or 10 before you come to a conclusion? Truthfully, I'd probably wait till mid-January to make a reasonable assessment.

Can I thank this 1000x?

Maxey from Kentucky has what RAF would say “Onions”. Hit big shot after big shot when Michigan State would make a run to get back in it. On the way home from work yesterday, I read an Article in the Athletic about him. Kid had quite a game.
... We need 6'10 240+at this level if we want to really do damage. Have we ever had a big man with a real offensive arsenal since Wennington who would also alter/block shots and rebound decent?
Robert Werdann. Aside from Wennington's higher FG percentage, his stats and Werdann's are pretty close. Neither was shot-blocking machine, but Werdann gets the edge, as he does with rebounds.

Bill Wennington career: 8.2 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 1.1 bpg, 57.9 FG%
Robert Werdann career: 9.77 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 1.8 bpg, 49.4 FG%

Wennington's invidual season highs: 12.5 ppg, 6.4 rpg, 1.5 bpg, 60.2 FG%
Werdann's individual season highs: 11.3, ppg, 7.6 rpg,, 2.2 bpg, 50.4 FG%

They have two guys (Udoka Azubuike and David McCormick) that would treat the "slim jim" type centers and PFs like 4th graders.

I know we're not Kansas, but in order to achieve our long-term goals, we will eventually need to add legit size (not just height).
Can I thank this 100x? We seem to think 6'7 or 6'8 is good enough but the truth is it's often not. We need 6'10 240+at this level if we want to really do damage. Have we ever had a big man with a real offensive arsenal since Wennington who would also alter/block shots and rebound decent?
Well Steere at 6’9” 250 is a start but we need one more for next year. I have to say that Seton has a legit one in Obiagu. Didn’t expect him to be as athletic as he is at his height and size. Some good coaching and he can become unstoppable down low. We could only be so lucky.
I'd love to get a baby shaq.
Serious question since I don't really follow the nba, are there true dominating centers like there used to be?

None that really stand out. Most "star" 5 men are really stretch 4's.

Well besides Anthony Davis, Embid and of course Jokic. Just because Embid and Jokic shoot 3's doesn't mean they're stretch 4's. I wouldn't want to guard them in the post. I was watching the Lakers last week (probably the only NBA games I'll watch all year) and AD was standing next to Dwight Howard and made what used to be Superman look like last year's version of Josh Roberts. Insane how big he is.
Hell of a doubleheader; any redmen.comers there?
I was there. Very sloppy - none of the teams were terribly impressive IMO, but great to see the top college teams play and kick off the college bball season! Not surprising that it was a bit rough given so many freshmen playing throughout. Reminds you how spoiled you could be watching guys like Zion and RJ play together as freshmen...most arent anything like them, even the top frosh.
