Carnesecca Arena

As an old SJU fan ,class of 62, I love the idea of local double headers but the economics are just not there . Recent ones struggle to draw 10,000 and that is when the local schools only play one game a year at the garden . Multiple games would result in lower attendance.
Crowds of 2,500 are considered huge at the local schools. Why the support is so bad I don' know but the garden is more interested in scheduling national teams rather than local. Ex. today's games. If the locals sold 15,000 tickets they would be welcomed . To keep the garden open for a six hr college dh paying NY union wages is very expensive.

I don't think union wages is in the top ten reasons why these games aren't scheduled.

I had Ed as professor. His class was more of lecture hall and would bring in guests. He and his company took it on the chin a couple years back with the College Bash which was suppose to bring concert acts to big schools during opening weekend for Spring Practice. Over past twenty years St.John's has come a long way. They're so many kids who go to school from out of state and international kids. Refurbishing Carnesecca Arena was throwing money away. It still looks like a glorified HS gym and still mostly bleacher seating. If they were going to refurbish they could have made the place similar to Moody Coliseum (SMU). I remember taking a tour Erin McDonough (nice lady) was bragging about the joint. They put makeup on a pig when comes to the building.

I hope school would consider Quinnipiac President for our next President. He has done a great job would really get things done here..[/quote

For better or worse he is also 68 years of age.

Lol how is Erin?! She used to coach softball before working facilities.

I hope mike repole or one of our wealthier alum help us with a new place. We should turn CA into like a student center with pools etc etc then build something small and new. CA is not as bad as some think but it's time to do better.

Watching Syracuse Duke now. I bet the attendance of SU fans for todays game alone maybe be more SJU fans at all of our games combined this year. And you want to know why they are getting a new arena and we aren't?

Nebraska is the syracuse of football.
The entire community comes out to support the team.
At the end of the day, they still have to live in lincoln or syracuse.
Just not worth it.

Population of Syracuse is 144,000. It looks like there was 40,000 fans there.

You think it's a marketing issue ? Or just disinterest because we are not ranked? I think I've only been to 2 games that were sold out at CA and one was for St Francis on Carnesecca night

You have to win to draw fans. Even many of the frequent posters on this board don't come to games when we aren't playing well.

Most posters HATE going to CA. Personally I'm not one of them but I know many that couldn't be bothered with going to those games.

I only go to one game a year at most at CA. I guess that's more of an issue of getting to a 7 o'clock start deep in Queens by mass transportation (having to switch from a train to a bus), it's just not feasible. But also the level of discomfort sitting in those stands is just not worth it.
