The hits keep coming for the Big East today. As much as I dislike Calhoun, the fact of the matter is, it's not a good time for the conference to be losing one of its high profile coaches.

I was at The Basketball HOF on Thur./Fri. and Calhoun spoke.

Must admit, at the time, his speech, to me, sounded a lot like a retirement announcement.

His remarks were filled with quite a bit of reflection on his life and coaching career. In fact, at one point I thought he was going to announce his retirement right then and there.

Will Kevin Ollie succeed him ?

The only thing that surprises me is that he didn't announce it on Francesa (not to be taken literally!!).

Francessa stated at his show's close that he will verify the rumor and try and have Calhoun on tomorrow.

Maybe Francesa will be able to stay awake through this one.

Can't stand the man but clearly he was the most successful big east coach there ever was.
However the announcement is really not a shocker.

His karma has hit the fan Hip Hip Hooray! so long stuttering jimmy dewars :woohoo:
Wait till his dirt in his basement gets dug up

Fatso will have him on the second he leaves the stage, he is such a kiss-*ss!

Francesa will probably claim that he "broke" this story too. i.e. he was playing golf with him or something like that.

Without question an conic coach who singlehandedly raised a program from obscurity to a long term powerhouse. You don't have to like him, you can question any ethical failures, but you cannot deny that he won consistently over 1/4 of a century. To the end, he had fire in his belly, even as his body gave out. He returned to coach last season just 4 days after back surgery. Even if you hate him, UCONN will not be the same without him.

I dont hate anyone & no one should ever! Calhoun was great as a bb coach but as a man who taught alot of young men how great of persons did he mold? A great person makes other people better hes no Rockne thats for sure.

Say what you will about Calhoun, he is a tough Irish Catholic from Boston area, with a chip on his shoulder and no silver spoon in his mouth and he got to the top of the mountain three times, and put a legion of guys in the NBA. He also disliked Jarvis.

He has a tremendous number of loyal disciples, including good guys like Donnie Marshall, Ray Allen and Omeka Okefor and many others. When they hold get-together's at Mohegan Sun, almost all of his important guys come back, there is a real camaraderie within the BB alumni that Calhoun gathered up there in no-wheres-ville Storrs.

He must have done something right.

This announcement leaves GENO A. as the undeniable Big Man On Campus.

Yes the writting was on the wall but the timing stinks for the BE. Like him or not, his leaving is just another hit on a conference that appears to be on the brink.
