Let me first start by saying I have not one lick of a clue what his situation is, if he's even going to College or if he's going the G-League/OT Elite route.
But let's assume for the sake of positive discussion that he is going to college and as of right now he's uncommitted.
According to Jeff Goodman, his camp has been super secret about everything so no one has any idea which way he's leaning but there are articles out there that say Ohio State and USC are favorites but still he's uncommitted so the door isn't completely shut.
The most important thing about this is getting him here so what could you sell him to even get him to consider us, well...
1) NIL - He's the son of Lebron James, Money SHOULD be the least of his concerns! But if he's seriously considering St Johns, there's enough money in New York for him to get a good amount, and maybe let the other kids who could make a difference in their families lives get some of what he leaves on the table.
2) Rick f'n Pitino, hall of famer and one of the greatest coaches to ever walk this planet. Things Andy Enfield and Chris Holtmann (with all due respect) are not.
Who are you trusting between the three of them to develop your game and get you ready for the next level. (Don't ask Walter Clayton Jr)
3) The playing time. (The less said about this the better)
4) The Stage - his commitment immediately sells out every Garden game including the SEASON home opener against (insert team here) That team is never touching Carnesecca because the ticket demand will be huge. Non St John's fans in NYC will pack any arena to see the son of one the greatest athletes in our lifetime play his college ball.
Fox could easily get 3-4 Million putting either Uconn game on a Sunday afternoon. My point is that eyeballs would be there for him here just as much if not more than any other school in the country.
5) The Competition - He's playing in the best basketball conference, that hosts the reigning National Champions, that also happen to play in the biggest media markets on the east coast.
Now we can't really sell him on facilities and the college environment sure, but he's obviously a special case in that these things (should) mean very little to him. He isn't going to be working out at our gyms when there is a Lifetime Athletic, and the Summit right there in Midtown. And if Kobe Bryant could be on campus when I was there and no one heard about it, he can take some classes in Marillac without drawing too much attention.
If it doesn't work out, he's done in a year and goes pro and his St John's tenure ends up being a trivia question, but that's literally also anywhere else he could go. I have no clue if these things would actually appeal to Bronny but to me it's a better situation than A LOT of other places if College was the route I was taking. Now the basketball side of things, we know he has size, is a good defender, great bounce, and a pretty good shooter. That should be good enough for Rick who I also don't think would turn down the chance at coaching him.
So to me its a no brainer that we should reach out (if he's even allowing contact)
There would be a lot of eyeballs on our program for better or for worse. And of course there is the potential that he isn't very good at this level and that his presence isn't a good impact on the team off the court.
What says the board? Would you invite the circus? Cause there would be a circus.
