Craig Carton’s influence and guy-talk style has destroyed the station and has had damaging repercussions to the quality of programming on the station. Spike Eskin was a moronic hire who only made things worse. I gave Sal a chance but he’s awful.

The station made a concerted effort some years back to take less calls, get rid of the 20/20 updates, have less beat reporters on like Eddie Coleman/Sweeney/Dottino who gave actual great info and fill the time with more hot take garbage. The most egregious error of all is the complete lack of guests anymore. You used to have managers, players, coaches, former greats, etc. on the airways all the time. Now it’s nothing but the hosts and their own word vomit.

Unfortunately that's the world we live in now with hot takes and click bait. Actual news broadcasting and reporting is a lost art. Have you seen some of the shows ESPN puts out? Embarrassing

With so many dick and fart jokes, I often forget that this was once a station where you could hear Dolores from Rego Park and Jerry Seinfeld talk to Steve Sommers at 1 a.m. or Mike and the Mad Dog almost single-handily take down George Steinbrenner in an interview that was more like a deposition.

The majority of the SJU fan base... is what probably over 55? I'm 37 and can't remember the last time i listened to the Fan... probably when my Dad used to drive me around in HS...

If Rick's goal is to "re-build" this brand, he needs to target a younger demo... Hop on Brady's TikTok and do some dances... we need this fanbase to get younger... or else in 20 yrs- it'll be me Dave and Jack on here posting to each other lol
 
BT has been the loudest and most consistent on-air supporter of St Johns this century. Period.

[1] Francesa would routinely have Jim Calhoun and John Calipari on as guests. Only Lavin got any air play with Mike. And, Mike was unprepared and admittedly uninterested in discussing recruits when Lavin landed his first big class.

[2] We had almost 13,000 at an 8:30pm mid-week game at MSG. That is a good step in the right direction, let's see how attendance and wins do in February: UCONN, Gtown, Creighton, all big home games coming up. big opportunities for headlines.

[3] School administration, up until Fr Shanley, is guilty of driving the St Johns brand into the ground.
 
i stopped listening to the fan years ago and just learned through this thread they stopped doing 20/20 updates? less callers calling in? If so WFAN is a joke. I cant tell you besides boomer who plays to the national audience who else is on this station? Nor do I actually care, besides the MINK MAN. BT does say it like it is, but seems like he didnt take a head count at the garden last week about 13,000 when last year we couldnt even sell enough tickets to justify paying the rent at MSG (never mind filling carnesseca).

While BT is right, what he did to Carl Banks was disgraceful. Licata is a jerk and I have no use for him whatsoever.

And now it’s hosts trying to find something to rile people up, no matter how stupid. Podcasts are a big part of this change as they fill the need for reasoned analysis, and any audience looking for that has now migrated.

We do have a precedent last year when we had a poster who repeatedly responded to himself on a thread I believe he created.

BT and Sal got into a heated argument earlier in the season with Carl re: the productivity of Kayvon Thibodeaux (Banks turned out to be correct). After the discussion got a little more contentious Sal hung up on Carl and Banks ended up canceling his weekly spot on the show. I'm fine with hosts getting into it with guests - Mike and Dog did it for years - but BT and Sal took it a bit further in their handling of the situation.

Starts at 14 minute mark. BT/Sal were total idiots about this. Kayvon had a big game, anyone with eyes could see that.

Sal was always an idiot, but I enjoyed his Mets fandom on SNY. But he's also somehow gotten stupider with his inane, non-sourced Alonso being a locker room cancer bs. BT has also dumbed himself down a lot with this new show. I've lost respect for both.

one of mjmaherjr's pet peeves is people who wear winter hats in the workplace.
 
I like BT, generally . Sal is awful with him though , he was the one who made the call to to hang up on banks disgraceful should have faced a suspension.

BT was a huge norm enabler, at the time it was nauseating. SJU needs to win period,Knicks are on a roll, the Jets and Giants behind the scenes stuff is interesting . BT has to talk to the masses , SJU is not there yet maybe next month will be different.
