Brandon Tierney / WFAN

BTs partner is brutal and their show is unlistenable. I realize BT is a nice guy but if they did talk about SJU on the show it might provide exposure but it would provide zero basketball insight. WFAN now programs for “low information” people, assuming, I guess, that is a larger share of the population.

He does a good job though personally I don’t like him from dealings. Sal is good ppl. Their show is trying to shock. Didn’t like what they did to Carl Banks.

Agree it was disgraceful how they acted toward Banks who managed to stay classy. Can’t agree Licata is good people. Used to think so but he bullies callers on his show, is totally disrespectful to them and he lead the abuse of Carl Banks.

I'm torn on this. On one hand I get the desire for St. John's to be in the local media and drive buzz. I also get the argument that SJU isn't good enough right now, even with Pitino, to generate ratings / calls which is all their program director and hosts care about. I understand that Pitino is a draw, and it would help increase ticket sales, and given the fact that WFAN is losing listenership and talks about nonsense often, what loss is it to them to do one segment on St. John's.

On the other hand - who cares? Terrestrial radio is a dying medium. Rick Pitino probably doesn't give two hoots about WFAN and would rather not waste 20 minutes doing it for no reason. Also - what's the saying - if they don't want me, I don't need them. Pitino is not going to beg anyone for anything.

I'm sure if Rick really wanted to do something like this he can make a phone call. And final point...if Pitino really wanted to do something like this, he should do it on his own terms and with his own creative license, do his own stand alone production. (Kinda like what Sean Miller is doing this year with The Sean Miller podcast on youtube) But again - I really don't think Pitino wants to waste his time doing this type of stuff and he's completely focused on winning games this season.

BT is a huge SJU fan but plain and simple he said all people need to realize. He needs to talk about what brings ratings. It isn't SJU. End of story.
To quote our man Minko, "Bingo". WFAN will most always focus on Yankees/Mets, Giants/Jets, Knicks and Rangers. The big 4 will always be talked about, the Knicks when they are good like now and even to some extent when they are not, and the Rangers when they are really good and making some noise in the playoffs (and they still play second fiddle to those others, save for 1994).

The Nets have been a superior franchise to the Knicks over the past 20+ years. And even when they had the J-Kidd teams going to finals, or the Durant/Irving/Harden trio, they still didn't get discussed that much on WFAN, and that's with having Mr. Net Evan Roberts hosting a midday or afternoon show during that period, and with some of the biggest starts in the sport on the roster. The Islanders aren't getting much discussions regardless of results, the Devils are an after-thought and other college teams are less than an after thought despite having many listeners in their geography (Rutgers football, Rutgers hoops, Seton Hall hoops).

We are lucky to have BT, Gio (also a fan), and frankly even Boomer who seems to like when St. John's can be discussed because of the Long Island connection. And if Pitino continues to have success they will weave us into that discussion.

One of the other on air guys ( not a main guy maybe he’s a weekend or filler in guy ) is big St. John’s fan. Don’t remember his name but just met him at tracks a couple games ago he was with a friend of my buddy

Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets, Giants, Jets, Yankees, Mets...... and a few minutes on the Knicks.

Incredibly boring radio.
