Brady Dunlap out 4-6 weeks

How did you suffer your injury? Glad your well now.
Thanks Eric. Man it’s embarrassing I was running outside and fell after rolling my ankle. I tried to break my fall with my hand but instead my right thumb took the full brunt and bent backwards viciously lol. It hurt like hell.

It was swollen instantly and had 0 range of motion for a few weeks. I opted for PT instead of surgery and it got me back to about 80% which I’m very happy with. Still hurts when my little ones grab me by the thumb lol. Doesn’t get much more unathletic than that smdh!

Hope he recovers.

Not clear to me if hand issue is lingering or new..

Coming out of Bahamas he had the hip issue and received shot for that. There was no mention of hand until now.

if lingering and he & staff knew, it doesn't help playing. If he knew and kept to himself and knew it affects performance that's not helping team either.
Sounds like it is new and unrelated to Bahamas and hip injury as coach Pitino said he has had it since the Kansas State game which is only around 10 days ago. Injuries happen and Dunlap's had a tough start to this year in that respect. Suspect he tried to play through it against Bryant & Depaul but it wasn't getting any better so they made the call to have surgery.

My son had this injury over the summer. His was not torn and he did not need surgery. But its a nasty injury and the joint at the base of his thumb swelled to like the size of a tennis ball almost instantaneously. I cannot imagine how bad it is if you tear it.

And it took forever to heal. Its really a strange and frustrating injury.

He got it by simply catching the ball on a routine pass from a teammate. Its just a freak thing.

Im assuming Brady tried to play through it as my son tried the same. But just catching passes is painful and then it keeps worsening.

You just described the cause of that injury to a tee!!!!

If ever you feel pain. Freeze up a Dixie cup of water. After if freezes. Peel back the top of the cup to expose a little ice. Rub the ice directly on your thumb where it hurts for 3-5 minutes. Continuous motion. Don’t let it sit. Circular motion. Put a towel underneath. It will get messy. When done put back in freezer. Reuse.

Explains why Brady looked so dejected during last night's game, particularly before the handshake line.

A sprain is really a partial tear which is why you get blood (black and blue) and swelling. Often a clean break is better than a ligament tear in terms of recovery.

With you son it was just a freak thing. I dont know how many times i jammed a finger playing basketball. You know, that sick sound the ball makes when it hitd an outstretched finger? Like your son once i dimply caught a routine pass and one of my fingers just swelled up like that it was a ham but it was nothing unusual.

Brady eas wearing a face mask too. A thumb can def mess up your shot and it had to hurt like hell if he got hit wrong.

If Newman were a St john's fan, he'd have said, "Nice game pretty boy".

"Then...a second later something happened that...:

Hopefully Glover can relax and let game come to him and not force his shot so much since he will be getting consistent mins.
Still, wouldn’t be surprised if Dunlap minutes went to Ayo, Maker or whoever.

Absolutely will do this, thank you Eric!

Glover can knock down threes. We need his ability to shoot. He has to get the minutes.

It's been apparent for a while something was off with the shooting. Especially when he had a few games earlier in the year where it looked like the Brady we know, and you have all of our players uniformly calling him the best shooter on the team, even before the recent slump.

Get better Brady. We will need you later in the year.

Ughh… hate to see it. Real easy kid to root for. I’m partial to any player that signs with us outta HS… old fashioned I guess…

Sad to say… this might be addition by subtraction… at this juncture. (This is coming from an over 8ppg voter lol) It was clear he was struggling. Hope he comes back better and confident.

but at this moment- Jaiden and Prey splitting his minutes are a net positive for this squad.
