Bracketology 2015

would you take it, a play in game or play the season and hope for more?

I have mixed feelings about that. Obviously, you want to get into the tourney much easier.

If you had to play the first four game, a loss would really suck, because you're NCAA tournament experience would be over before it really started. However, if you played that game, and won, I think there is a bit of an advantage for you in the round of 64 game, so playing on the weekend is not that distinct of a possibility.

I like to let the year play out before I make any final judgements on what constitutes a success.

St Marys and Providence are in the "last 4 out" so those games are must wins when we play them.

Making the play in game would be a disappointment to me - i hope we play better than being one of the last 4 in when the brackets come out.

No! I despise the whole play-in game concept. I think it short changes the smaller conference teams (like the SWAC), because those games never have the juice of the Thursday/Friday games. It's almost like not being in the tournament at all, and conference champions deserve better.

The minimum goal for satisfaction should always be an 8 seed or better at a minimum.

As a first goal, you are probably right.

If we're a 10 seed and get hot, knock off the 7 and the 2 to get to the Sweet 16 (which has happened many times before), I think we'd all consider that a success.

That's why I always say let the season play out. One major injury to Harrison or Obekpa (heaven forbid), and all our expectations for this season change.

The tournament is a second season to me, with a lot more luck involved. It takes some prolonged success to get in the top half of the draw in the dance. That's an accomplishment. Sure being a 4 seed and losing in the first round must suck. Been a long time since STJ has had the chance to even consider that proposition though.

It happened regularly back in the day.

I'd rather be a 10 than an 8 seed.

I think part of me agrees with you., though it probably makes for a more frustrating regular season, and a little sweating on Selection Sunday (though probably not much).

Unless we get the #1 seed (which is a pipe dream at this point), I always root for us to be on the "bottom of the bracket", meaning we wouldn't have to face the #1 seed until the regional final. Since we'll almost never be a 14 or a 15 (we'd have to win the Big East Tournament with a losing record overall for that to happen), I generally like being paired with the 2 and 3 seeds, rather then the 1. All of this being match up dependent, of course.

My thinking is the teams seeded 7-11 are all basically even, so why not avoid the 1 in the 2nd round. Now in a perfect world we would love to be a 2 , 3 ,or 4 seed but that's not happening.

BE gets no respect with three bids, one being a play in game team.

Cant take these things seriously though- the accuracy preseason til the real tournament - both with seeds and projecting who is in and out isnt great by these "experts"

I just want to stay out of the 8/9 game, because the 4 #1 seeds look scary this year. But if we get a 7/10 game or 6/11 game I'm confident on our chances to make a run. But way too early to get into this.

5 seed seems possible. I like Butler's spot. Buffalo and then #4 Maryland. That would be a very reasonable path the Sweet 16.

if we continue to play how we have, finishing in the Top 2 of the Big East would be a definite possibility; therefore being on the 8/9 line or even the 6 line for that matter would be a HUGE disappointmentt.

A Top 2 finish in the BE plus a good BET showing should get SJU a 4seed (hypothetically we win out up to the Seton Hall game with this scenario)....or maybe even on the 3 seed line....Creighton was # 2 in the BE last year and they got a 3 seed.

How about we make the tournament first? There is a lifetime of ball to play between now and Selection Sunday.
