Boston Unsealed Indictments/ Georgetown

Really nutty;
“Dozens of people — including actresses Feilicty Huffman and Lori Loughlin and college coaches — have been indicted in a large-scale cheating scam involving college entrance exams, according to reports Tuesday.

Those charged are accused of paying bribes to get their kids into high-profile schools like Georgetown, Stanford, UCLA and Yale as recruited athletes — regardless of their athleticism, ABC 11 reported.”

Huffman and Loughlin are among those charged in a newly unsealed indictment.

Tennis coach named, apparently.

John Thompson Jr argued vehemently and was at the forefront that college admission standards be lowered for D1 athletes in marquee sports who were disadvantaged. Arthur Ashe argued just as vehemently that lowering the bar academically for athletes of color would effectively communicate that people of color could not compete academically against other racial groups. Wouldn't be surprised if JT's long shadow at Georgetown resulted in improprieties, not that the two differing opinions make one prone to illicit activity.

Huffman was arrested and is in police custody. Looks like she bribed admissions to get a kid in. Aunt Becky paid $15k for her kid to get extra time and have a proctor correct wrong answers for SAT.

I wonder if Elaine from Seinfeld will pop up with her son being a walkon at Northwestern.

She's an alum and has probably donated a lot -- but not in the form of a direct bribe. He was getting in even if grades weren't up to snuff, but there probably won't be paper trail indicating anything illegal.

Having been around this enough with 3 kids at high profile universities, many big donations to universities are also done with an inferred if unspoken quid pro quo. If a donor drops a very large donation on a university, its an extremely safe bet that his kids or grandkids will get at the very least a hard look at the least if the admission doors don't swing wide open for them.

Wasn't it Georgetown that Carmela was trying to get her into? If memory about the show serves, she chose Columbia on her own.

See episode where Tony visited Columbia w Meadow & Carmella. GT push involved a neighbor. In any event you get my humorous point hopefully. :)

They couldn't get SH to hire Pauly as an assistant coach, so ivy was the next choice.

Now, Philly.com is reporting current Auburn assistant Ira Bowman is alleged to have participated in a bribery scheme while he was an assistant coach at Penn.

Bowman was named in federal court on Friday by former Penn head coach Jerome Allen, who pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from a parent to put his son on Penn’s basketball team. Allen testified Bowman continued the scheme after Allen was fired in 2015. Bowman would go on to become an assistant at Auburn in 2018.

I believe Sean Hannity's son plays on the Wake Forest Tennis team. Also Beast, the contributions you mentioned are considered back door by the guy running this scheme and are "legal" as the school doesn't "have to take" those students in. This was called side door.

At least in basketball the players get paid as well.
