Well I do have mixed feelings on Boeheim. Absolutely one of the most successful coaches in college basketball history.
Absolutely a big Big East guy who may have stood his ground (unsuccessfully) if he were 15-20 years younger. He does know that the Big East created Northeastern rivalries the way the ACC created them in the South. You can become regionally irrelevant pretty quickly playing most of your away games far away.
He has mellowed over time, to be almost respectable on the sidelines. The older guys here know and hated the always whining Boeheim throwing tantrums on the sidelines and rarely getting called out for it. Okay, both Looie and Rollie and others had their share too, but Boeheim is unlikeable enough as an undertaker's son to be a little b***** on the sidelines.
What Calhoun and Boeheim and Calipari have proven is that unless you are a near deity, the best recipe for winning in college basketball year-in year-out is to cheat just a little (if you want to win a little) or cheat a lot to win alot.
Bottom line, if he tod Andy Katz something off the record and Katz reported it, Katz IS an idiot. The way to get back would have been to feed him something entirely false that if Katz reported it would look like the idiot he was. then he could have told him privately, only an idiot reports something he is told off the record, true or false.

I hate to say it. But we, St. John’s fans, sound like a bunch of losers and whiners, when we speak about SYR, UCONN and GTOWN, as those teams we need to “hate”; WE “hate" their coaches (former coaches; probably future coaches) and we “hate” their fans (past and future). I have spoken positively about other BE programs now and then on here, and people get so angry for no reason.
Can you figure out why we don’t “hate” Providence, and Seton Hall and Tim Welsh and Louie Orr, et al.
So, we “hate” the fans and the coaches of the most successful programs over the last 20+ years.
But if the programs at Providence, SH, Rutgers, etc., were as successful as those "other" programs we’d probably “hate” those (losing) programs instead.
I wish we would all calm down here. When anyone says anything positive about Uconn, GT, Syracuse, the angry words come back so quick.
I personally know a lot of fans of those schools, and a bunch of syracuse fans, Uconn and GT fans are JUST LIKE US; they’re are nice guys and gals!!!!
They love their teams, they love their coaches, they love love their program, as they are supposed to. Just like we do.
Why do we have to castigate them all the time, geeeze, it gets old.
Don’t hate them. They just root for another team.

I'm a Yankees fan. Therefore, I hate the Red Sox and their obnoxious fans. I know that they hate me too. That's the nature of fanhood. Of course we hate the good teams more than the bad teams. Part of our hatred for Georgetown, Syracuse and, to a lesser extent, Uconn is because of the length of our rivalries with them. That's what makes all of this so fun. The Big East has been a great league because of the intensity of these rivalries.
If you're not gonna be passionate about it, why bother watching and rooting?
By the way, as far as Syracuse, I really do hate their players and fans. Not personally as human beings, but as far as their attitudes and behaviors and what they stand for. I have only a mere dislike for the others.

Look, I hate the Cuse too, St.John's never could be lucky like the Cuse. How could Syracuse find a young coach that could be so successful and never have aspirations to leave or go to the Pro's. The guy was happy to be a hick in upstate NY. Amazing, even Looie left for the Pro's and would have stayed there if
Rick Barry did not have to leave the Nets. Bad coaches like Jarvis, who couldn't recruit, had success with Frachills'a players, yet was ready to bolt to the Pro's
at the first offer (Wizards). When we have a good recruiter FF. our head man decides the image is wrong, yet he is on business trips in silk suits, with Rolex watches and vacations in Hawaii. Noting terribly wrong with that except it does go against the "Mission". I guess I will continue to hate these schools until the Johnnie's start a long run of success again, hopefully with Lavin.

If you ever go to a Gt Hoyas game their fans dont act like jerkys towards johnny fans but puconn & cuse fans do

I guess I think “hate” is a very strong word, left for the Hitlers and Stalins of the world.

Vignette...i am at our wonderful Uconn win at the Garden last week and this 25 yr old girl and her boyfriend are sitting next to me. Neither had ever been to the Garden before. They didn’t go to Uconn but Cornell, but she grew up near Hartford and her family are big fans. Anyway, she rooted hard, I rooted even harder, we won, she was a sweetheart. I think people that say they hate all Uconn fans, should meet this girl and her family who are probably just as nice. I had to tell her, that one loud, obnoxious Johnny fan behind the Uconn bench who was boorish and insulting and taunting the bench, was not indicative of all St. John’s fans. Now she could have said all st. johns’ fans are jerks but she didn’t.
Part of the fun of it is when you get to know these other fans, they are just like us. I’ve had marvelous conversations and debates with fans of every other school, yes, even some Duke fans.

Richard, exactly, one of the nicest nights I had was before a Garden game, ran into two older couples at Keen’s and we bought each other drinks, etc., talked BE and college BB for over an hour, great folks. Very respectful of SJU tradition and history and loved Jackson, Berry and Mullin and Looie, et al. even though they had just won their first title.

During Jarvis yrs ag uconn the games were sold out to half uconn's drunks who thought they owned msg just like cuse today
I used to go to the play by play pregame during the BE tourn. before st.j's games the puconn's were very willing to start crap
I had many friends who worked security at the garden & was happy to get those big mouths tossed out lol
the yr w bootsy,barkley & postell beating them for the BE title was very satisfying indeed
