Here is the skyline on the baseball jerseys like I mentioned. Notice how happy the player is that we got a cool concept jersey for once :)

Bottom line, we can do way better.

I think those baseball uni's look dreadful actually. Different strokes for different folks.

Moose would know better, but I believe most of the alternative jerseys are created by Adidas, Nike/Jordan. There's not somebody in Georgetown or Storrs, CT drawing up grey space-age uniform designs. The people at Nike choose UNC, Georgetown, etc to display their new designs.
Same thing for Under Armour and Maryland.

And speaking of which, why did our relationship with Jordan brand end? I wasn't a huge fan of those early storm uniforms, but a long term relationship with Jordan would have led to better uniforms eventually.
Did they drop us?

Yeah Jordan dropped us towards the early half of Norm's tenure.

Designs are collaborative effort between school and supplier. Some are more aggressive than others.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but some recruits have even gone to Oregon vs other schools BECAUSE of the cool jerseys! They made the difference. Players like to look fresh on the court.

What do you guys think of this? Very crude...apologies for bad MS paint skills.

Stick to your day job? ;)

Lol...idk obviously I'm not a pro, but I just really want to see some fresh unis. Maybe a color change, another logo...something.

can you show me where a recruit stated that they chose a certain school over another because of their fresh uniforms?

Uniform changes help the brand when they coincide with an improvement in performance.

Baylor and Oregon have been very very successful in basketball and football the last couple of years; so they're a success story. Maryland football? Not so much.

I'll give Joe this, if we were going to debut new uniforms; this year or next would be the time to do it, because it certainly appears our program is turning a new leaf and stepping up our performance a notch.

It reminds me of the Mets, they debuted their black uniforms right around the time the team traded for Piazza. Success on the field made the transition to those black-unis a lot easier.
If they had stunk, everybody would have complained about the new design.

Exactly. It's not so much about the look itself. It's the psychological "turning over a new leaf" or "new era" kind of thing. This is the new Lavin era where we are finally recruiting top tier talent. It's symbolic that we are starting fresh. I know it would not be cheap to have new jerseys made, but it's completely doable to consult a designer and narrow it down to the coolest design. Like one player said in one of the articles: "If it comes down to 2 schools all things being equal, the jersey could be the deciding factor". Sounds nuts, but it happens guys. This is a very materialistic age and players like looking flashy. Basketball especially is a game of flashiness and boldness.

I was waiting for someone to fall in that trap. Now tell me, why does it matter? A jersey is a jersey whether it's soccer, baseball, football, or basketball. The concept transcends all sports.

because i've never heard a recruiting war for a top tier basketball player came down to uniform...hence the reason i asked you to show me...if that was a trap, you need to work on your trap making skills

I like the black unis honestly. I just wish there was a way I could get my hands on a pair of the shorts and the white shorts.

I agree with some in this thread that want a logo change, it's unbelievably bland. Not sure why we went this route to begin with, and I don't think we're going to be changing it any time soon. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I just provided countless articles that suggest it does matter to some extent. I never said jerseys were the primary recruiting tool obviously. But you can't say it's not a factor. Did you see the Oregon article? The recruit's mom was talking to the coach and told him, "My son wants to play for you because he loves the different jerseys". Though this isn't front page news, trust me when I say it's more common than you think. I remember in undergrad, people would always get excited when the bookstore had new clothing options with nice designs and such...same happens with the players. Will jerseys settle a recruiting war? No, probably not. Will they be a really cool asset to put the school over the top for a recruit? Yes. Hip hop and clothing go hand in hand. Hip hop also goes hand in hand with basketball. The culture overlaps. What results is the desire to be flashy, fly, and "fresh". Some of you guys might not have heard of the last term, but it's used a lot among the youth today. Jerseys are not the end all be all by any means, but they certainly deserve more consideration than some like to give. No one wants to look dull on a court.

Did you say close your trap?

For those who don't know what Moose is referring to, Baldi on JJ is claiming a source told him we'll be debuting grey uniforms soon.
