Billy Donovan
Apparently he is making $3.9 million. Would he take a salary cut to take on our rebuild?
Can't imagine why he would. If he's fired, he can just chill out for a year and wait until one of the high-budget schools takes him. He's not in the same boat as Pitino.

Again he would have to be dismissed or some sort of mutual parting from OKC with a buyout from OKC.

He won't walk away from serious money on the table from OKC.

So to make this thing work, all that has to be done is:

1. OKC craps out,
2. Billy is fired,
3. Billy wants to coach college again
4. Billy feels the need to coach right away
5. Billy wants to move his family to NYC year round
6. SJU has the money to pay him.

Seems simple enough.

You’d think the same money that was behind our shot at Hurley would be behind a brand name hire. Oddly enough #6 might be the only step that could happen.

I am sure that the likelihood of Billy Donovan becoming the head men’s basketball coach at StJohns in 2019 is the same likelihood as it was during 2 StJohn’s head coaching searches ago when posters got excited about his possible hire. If I recall Billy has/ had an Aunt who is a Nun now or formerly in Rockville Center which fueled the fantasy.

I would be very surprised if there is any truth in the fantasy of Billy D coaching at StJohn’s

Money not a problem. One major donor had a lot of money on table for Pitino and now pushing Billy D. Money not for mid-major hires. SJU picking up the check on those candidates (i.e., Moser)
Exactly pitino and billy, big time coaches, you dont shell out millions for mid major coaches, or unproven ac.
Get the heavy weights

His parents live on LI.

So that's why he went to HS on Long Island. LOL

A dream candidate but just that, a dream. If he were to lose the job in OKC every State school with an opening this year and next year would be looking at him. He also might still get looks in the NBA. I can dream but I really don’t see SJU as his ideal spot. As much as it pains me...
