Billy Donovan out at OKC

I wouldn't touch the Philly job.
I don't like the team chemistry with their "stars" (Simmons and Embiid)
Horford and Harris are being paid way beyond what they produce
Losing Reddick really hurt them
I don't see the Sixers ever being serious contenders with this roster
I'm not sure Embiid and Harris are there for the long haul.
Embiid is a head case, is always hurt and doesn't play even close to his potential
Harris signed a 5 year $180 million contract ($36 mill/year). Highly overvalued.
Horford's contract at this stage of his career is greatly overvalued as well.
Can't see any of them being in great demand as trade bait
Sixers have a greatly flawed roster. They may be stuck with these guys.

Lots of delusional fans here regarding the St John’s job. We are a school with perpetual money issues, antiquated facilities, a student body that is at best, marginally engaged, that hasn’t tasted success in years.
In short, it’s nothing like an NBA opportunity, or a big state college job. (Florida).
We are fortunate to have coach Anderson. Let’s allow him to move forward.
Not directed at anyone in particular but it boggles my mind why there would be any consideration of changing coaches at this point. Does anyone think that last year's team underperformed? His kids play their hearts out, obviously like him and are easy to root for. Plus he is as good a representative of the University as you could ask for. I don't care what the rankings of his recruits are (although I understand why it would matter to some people) - I want to see what the product ton the court llooks like, assuming there is one this year.
No, but it's interesting to see how desperate some of us here are for success that they'd go to any length (even by cheating or unethical means) to get it. We are extremely fortunate and lucky that CMA took the job, he's already done a commendable job here, and some are willing to personally drive him away and dump him in the trash if someone they consider better would be willing to come here. Mind boggling indeed.
It's pretty clear that what we continually describe as ineptitude on the part of St. John's is something that every program with an iconic basketball coach struggles with. Donovan left Florida, and they did a very good job (apparently) of hiring Mike White (whose dad coincidentally is the AD at Duke). Indiana hasn't recovered from Knight leaving, UCLA despite periodic success has a Woodenesque expectation largely unfulfilled over the 45 years since he retired, UCONN fired Kevin Ollie AFTER a championship and where the ghost of Calhoun lurks. People speculate just how far Syracuse and Duke will slip after Boeheim and K finally retire.

CMA's salary is about as much as SJU can reasonably spend, and that salary is definitely in the top 40.

I agree that our job is not one Donovan would likely be interested in should he return to college (also agree he likely will stay in the NBA). Even so, should the right job open up, his price would start at $4 million per, and would likely go much higher.

The below link shows why selecting a head coach from the mid-majors is the route many schools take. Most mid major coaches earn below $400,000, and the economic of most D1 programs dictate taking a shot on a promising up and comer.

Right now, our season ticket base is very small for a Big East program, and embarrassing considering the NYC metro population. Although there are other sources of revenue, thinking we could ever afford to hire from the top shelf is ridiculous.
We had a shot at top shelf with Pitino. The administration took a pass.
That said, I like CMA a lot, he deserves at least the same amount of time to prove himself as Lavin.

Dean Smith has Arisen from the Dead. Since Roy Williams is not leaving Carolina, y'all need to send Mike Cragg an email letting him know how badly y'all want Dean.

You articulately stated how I was feeling as I read some of those posts. Thank you!

I remember how Wooden responded to an interviewer asking his reaction to those who called Wooden, "the greatest coach ever." Wooden paused a moment then responded, with a polite chuckle, "In no way am I close to being the greatest coach ever. I was fortunate enough to have great players, but I am equally certain that the greatest coach ever is some person we've never heard. Maybe he is coaching or coached high school kids in some small obscure town, with kids who weren't all that talented. But that person could still be the greatest coach ever for his knowledge of the game, how he developed and treated kids."

I shouldn't have put quotes on Wooden's sentiments, but it is in essence what he said.

For what I've seen of CMA, he checks a lot of the boxes of great coach, even more so with how he has reacted to what is going on in our country over the past months. He may prove to be among the greatest, maybe even the greatest coach we've ever had. I'm certainly comfortable letting that play out, and the more I see and hear of him, the happier I am that he is here.

Coach K is the only coach from a private university/college on the Top 28 highest paid coaches list.

Both Hurleys, Donovan, Wright, McKillop, Pitino, etc. This program has come dangerously close to would-be great hires. Unfortunately, our timing sucks.

Just missed on Wright

Mullin wanted a shot when we could've had Dan Hurley who had a UConn opening after they fired Ollie

Pitino very likely would've come here but we thought (admin thought) that we'd get killed in media...he goes to Iona and everyone instantly forgets any negatives.

Bobby Hurley flirts with us, then goes to ASU and turns them into a potential top 10 team with great recruiting and hype.

Donovan finally becomes available but after we already got CMA. May sound heartless, but I'd take Donovan over CMA 100/100 times. No one is winning here consistently with no recruiting. Donovan is Lavin recruiting level with real coaching. That's what it takes to get us back in national relevancy and competing for BET crowns on the reg.
Hell no to both Hurley brothers (especially Bobby) and hell no to Pitino.

Regarding Donovan, this is not the job for him. He is in the latter stage of his career and will have multiple big opportunities. No reason for him to take on the SJUBB rebuild.

We have our guy. Good things are ahead.
Hurley bros are running circles around us recruiting. Our plan is basically like an NFL team relying on 6th round picks to all become Tom Brady at their position. Good luck with that. We will need it...and a lot.
I had no idea you felt that way. Why didn't you say something?

Embiid is a head case, is always hurt and doesn't play even close to his potential which is why teams will try to get him on the "cheap."

A player like Harris will always be coveted at the deadline by a team that thinks that one extra push is going to get them over the top. I wouldn't pay that price for Harris, but someone will.

Both are worth a first rounder and various pieces just to get them away from your team's chemistry and payroll.

The only extremely far fetched reason BtheK would ever consider STJ given its profile and salary history is if he has a desire to move back into his boyhood home that just can't be denied, and he can't talk the Knicks into reconsidering the Mike Miller hire.

I'm pretty sure Jay Wright makes over $4 million.

TCU, Baylor, and Gonzaga aren't public either.
