I don't disagree with much of what you just said. However, I feel hat they have a more balanced roster than us, both in terms of size as well as experience. Achidiacono, when he's hot, is very hot. He is inconsistent but we caught him on a hot night. Maybe that was just our defensive deficiency at that point in the season. I, too, was upset over that loss because I felt that a few breaks and just a bit better defense and we would have won. Not because I think we are a vastly superior team than them.
By the way, I'm still not sure if you think they are a good team or a bad team. Let me just say, Jay Wright is a successful coach (sorry Gonzalo) and he has, over many years, built a good program. We are coming together quickly but we are not there yet.
I think Nova is a good team right now, and is a shoe-in for the top 25 next year at some point. It's hard to describe...they are just such a well-coached, talented team with chemistry and Nova always seems to have those bombers who can make tons of shots year after year. That's why even when they were predicted to have a down year, I figured they would be extremely dangerous. I don't think I've ever seen them truly fail much at any point in my life. They have consistently been a great program and this is a down year for them on the bubble. That should be telling. I want to see us get to the point where I'm not worried about us getting embarrassed by G'Town/Cuse/L'Ville on our home court at MSG on the train ride in. Once we are at the point where we can consistently compete with the real top tier foes like Nova has done, I will know we are back.
If I didn't know any better, then I would think Villanova was Kentucky, Kansas, UNC, Duke, Michigan State, Florida, UCLA, and the likes.
I'm guessing you've just started watching basketball about 8 years or so ago. Villanova was somewhat pedestrian during the earlier part of the 2000's. They certainly had a good run during a 4 or 5-year period (with guys like Foye, Ray, Sumpter, Frazier, Nardi, Fisher, Stokes, Pena, and the likes), but have fizzled the last two years in the NCAA Tournament.
It's amazing how you've morphed one season into something else.
