On the left is the Big East coaches pre-season poll. To the right of each team is the number of 4* and above-top 7 players by minutes.

1. Villanova: 5*
2. Creighton: 5
3. Providence: 4
4. UConn: 3
5. Seton Hall: 3**
6. Marquette: 5
7. Xavier: 4
8. Butler: 3
9. St. John's: 2
10. Depaul-2?
11. G-Town: 2

*Villanova has the only 5 star.
**Seton Hall: Obiagu may have ended up a 5*.
? Depaul has not played, so first 7 was based on team reports.

Make of this what you will. Let's see how close the coaches get. Like Looie always said: "You want to win, get good players".

I'm sure you are making a good point, but I'm not sure what it is. Are you saying teams that are (projected to be) good, get the best (rated) recruits or that teams that get the best recruits are projected to be better? Or both?

As I wrote, make of it what you will. Since there has been so much discussion on recruiting, especially 4 star players, I was curious as to how each program stacked up in terms of higher ranked recruits. It is clear that the 3 programs with only a few 4* players were picked to finish 9, 10 and 11. Where they finish there is another story. The list also shows how good are the services like Rivals. In the end, 1 thing you do see is only 1 5 star player is in the entire Big East. Shows how tough it is to land them.

Great post. I'd also be interested to see how winning has correlated to the level of talent. You'll see teams 1-8 over the past 5 years have all consistently been getting NCAA tournament appearances (except UConn).

Well off the top of my head, I would say that list gives you an idea of how Marquette, projected to finish 6th in league, beat Creighton, expected to challenge Nova for 1st. Of course in this league, 6th puts you on the NCAA bubble, so not a huge surprise, but shows they've recruited very well even after losing for bonafide 4-5* talent to transfer or the NBA draft.
