Big East Predictions

What do you guys think will be the final standings at the end of the regular season, pre conference tournament.

My Picks:
1. Villanova
2. Marquette
3. Xavier
4. St. John's
5. Providence
6. Butler
7. Seton Hall
8. DePaul
9. Creighton
10. Georgetown

I got....

1. Villanova - Class of the conference until proven otherwise. It's just asinine to pick against Jay Wright especially with talented players such as Eric Paschall and Phil Booth returning. Jahvon Quinerly is the favorite to win BE freshman of the year, and Albany transfer Joe Cremo should seamlessly fit right into Villanova's style of play.

2. Butler- Kamar Baldwin could challenge Ponds for BIG East POY, and Duke transfer Jordan Tucker isn't really being talked about, but he's gonna be a problem in this conference. LaVall Jordan is another rising star coach that Butler has produced, and I think they will greatly exceed expectations, and be a top 25 caliber team.

3. Marquette- Markus Howard and Sam Hauser are two of the best shooters in the country. They will score a ton of points, but also will give up their fair share. In the end I like them to make the tourney and be towards the top of the BE standings.

4. St. John's- If you swapped Chris Mullin for Jay Wright or Ed Cooley I'd easily pick SJU to win the Big East, but the biggest question with them is how will Chris Mullin manage all this talent he has at his disposal? Ponds, Simon, Heron, Clark and Keita form the best starting lineup in the conference with big time contributors LJ Figueroa, and Mikey Dixon coming off the bench. Again like Marquette we should be able to score a ton of points, but can we defend the 3 and rebound? Time will tell.

5. Providence- Alpha Diallo should be one of the best players in the conference, flanked by Emmitt Holt, Makai Ashton-Langford, Nate Watson, and AJ Reeves. They lose Cartwright, Bullock, and Lindsay, but still have one of the best rosters in the conference. Factor in Ed Cooley is the second best coach in this conference right now and I think they can finish as high as second in the conference.

6. Xavier- They lose arguably one of the best coaches in the nation, in Chris Mack, and also Treyvon Blueitt, and JP Macura. I'm not as high as most on them with a rookie head coach, in Travis Steele, and a ton of talent lost from last year's team. The loss of Chris Mack is huge. I've seen them ranked as high as 2 on some people's lists, but I think they will finish in the middle of the pack this year.

7. Georgetown- I like their front court a lot. Jesse Govan is probably the best big man in the conference I'm not too high on their backcourt though. UConn transfer James Akinjo should be solid, but I can't see them keeping up with some of the more talented backcourts in this conference.

8. Seton Hall- Losing their lauded star senior class from last year will hurt big time. Myles Powell is still there, and Cuse transfer Taureen Thompson should be a key contributor, but I don't see them making much noise this year.

9. Creighton- Another team that lost a ton of talent from last year's team. Gone are Khyri Thomas and Marcus Foster. They will return Davion Mintz, and some other younger players, but I largely see this as a rebuilding year for Greg Mcdermott and co.

10. Depaul- Max Strus and Eli Cain will form a very intriguing combo, and if all goes right for the Blue Demons I think they could be very competitive this year. They played SJU very tough (embarrassed us at home, and played us very close over there) last year. I don't think they'll be the Big East doormat this year, and will give a lot of teams problems.

Hard to pick Xavier this low since they are so good as a program at reloading after losing a coach but I just don't see the roster being competitive with the rest of the league.

Additionally, Shamorie wins Big East Player of the year, Chris wins Big East Coach of the year, and we get a 3 or 4 seed in NCAA.

If SJ wins the BE, I would expect higher than a 3 or 4 seed.

I do think with our talent and depth this year, we have a good shot at winning the BET. I know it’s early, but our best chance in years will be this year. It certainly wouldn’t hurt our resume’.

If everything breaks right for us:
1) Villanova
2) St. John's
3) Marquette
4) Butler
5) Providence
6) Xavier
7) Creighton
8) De Paul
9) Seton Hall

Regular Season:

1) St. John’s
2) Nova
3) Marquette
4) Providence
5) Butler
6) Xavier
7) Creighton
8) Seton Hall
9) G*Town
10) DePaul

13-5 in BEC, 12-1 OOC, 25-6 heading into the BET.
St. John’s wins the BET, goes into the Dance at 28-6, and reaches the Elite 8...tea leaves are murky beyond that.

Not doing the list.

Just want to say, how can anyone say SJU over Villanova?
Villanova is always the top dog, now we get some talented new guys, and we're gonna knock Villanova off huh?
I hope SJU does, but in reality, I gotta go with Villanova winning the B.E. I can see SJU finishing 2nd.
SJU gotta show me they can take down the champs.
However, by March they'll have months of playing together, they'll know how to play with each other. We can win the B.E. championship, they're certainly talented enough, just gotta put in the work. Play obsessed every game.
I'd rather win the BE tourny then finish 1st in the B.E. standings anyway.

Only way I can see us winning the Big East is if Sedee Keita game vs Rhode Island wasn’t an anomaly. If Sedee keita can give us 13-15 a game I can’t see us losing to anybody.

Plus, Kofi migh commit to us if Keita blows up and we have a magical season.

Keita has offensive skills unlike most of our past centers. He’s really a big PF on most teams. Small-ball is going to be our style for the most part anyway, but we aren’t truly small. Half our guards are 6’3-6’5”. I remember we did fine with Anthony Glover at center, went to the tourney, and he wasn’t much bigger than Earlington.

People on here are pretty optimistic! Even in a down Big East, just hard to find myself picking St John's for a 1st or 2nd place finish.
