Big East Prediction Time?

I said 13-7 before the season. I'm not so confident now. How they start the season will be a huge factor
I see shu as a loss, hope I'm wrong.
butler & DePaul as winsTossups: Marq & g-townMarquette is tough but you gotta win that at home, Georgetown looks bad but that will be a road game. Gotta at the very least split those 2.

Aim for 4-1, expect 3-2, 2-3 is unacceptable.

Tier 1:  Nova, Seton Hall, Xavier, UConn
Tier 2:  SJU, Providence, Marquette
Tier 2A:  Creighton, DePaul
Tier 3:  Butler, Georgetown

You can throw the Tier 1 teams in a hat and pull them out in any order you want.
Ditto for Tier 2.
Tier 2A could wind up being merged with Tier 2 (which is why it's 2A, not 3)
Tier 3 is likely to have a tough season in this conference.

I agree with most of what you have listed. However, having seen Creighton play, I think they are better than you have them rated. So, I would put Creighton into Tier 2 and move DePaul into Tier 3 with Butler and Georgetown.

By the way, I watched part of a Georgetown game on TV. If they're worst team in the Big East, we have one heck of a conference from top to bottom.

I agree that a likely outcome for the Tier 2A teams is Creighton moves up to Tier 2 and DePaul slides back to Tier 3.  But Creighton is young and DePaul may be much improved this year - the talent wasn't the problem there, it's that Leitao is a truly awful coach. They're 2A because I just don't have as good a feel for them as the other Tier 2 and Tier 3 teams.

And you are correct that Georgetown has good talent on that roster and that the conference is tough from top to bottom.

I don’t see anyone running away with it. I’d be really surprised if anyone went 18-2 or whatever. I think it’s going to be tight with a bunch of teams in that 9-11 through 11-9 range. Kind of like the last season of Mullin/Ponds when losing/winning back to back games would make you slip/jump btwn 3rd and 8th. Much better numbers for the conference this season thanks to the strong OOC performance though. 10-10 should give you some favorable computer numbers no matter who the wins are against.

I have an interesting take on the Big East season.   In basketball, home court advantage weighs very heavily.    Very often you can be a better team overall than the home team, but still lose on their court, earning you a split.    I do believe league records would be vastly different if all games were played on neutral courts.   We will split with a lot of teams that are worse than us.   With our best games at MSG without a strong home court advantage, it will be harder to win those games than say for a Villanova to win their home contests.

My take therefore that we may be better overall talentwise, although that remains to be seen, but will be hard pressed to win more than 10 or 11 games in conference because of the above.   For our squad, sweeping even the teams projected to be at the bottom of the league will be a challenge.   I think in the end we could be in the NCAA bid hunt, but in league the high water mark will be 12 wins, low water 9 wins.   Given that, 10 or 11 wins sounds right.

Unfortunately this seems to happen most years in the current iteration in the Big East. Not a ton of separation, teams beat up on each other ever night, and then the NCAA seedings are not favorable except for the top team or two in the conference. So most teams are given seedings in the 6-10 range and are immediately underdogs into tough matchups. Seems to me this is why we haven't seen many Big East teams advance very far in NCAA tourney outside of maybe 1.

That’s why it’s important for the BE teams to win it’s ooc games. I think BE gets 6/ teams in this year. We are now an 11 team conference. Nine of the teams are good, hard to predict,

My guess is those down on Nova will soon be reminded of the Jay Wright corporate-style machine.  Perhaps not as strong, but he has enough.

Based on what we have seen so far? Bottom tier.
Since I expect improvement: Mid pack
Best case scenario? 4th, but only if one of the pre-season top 4 goes south because of injuries or some unforeseen problem.
If we look back at the end of the season and all agree that Champ had a great year, then I would think a top 4 finish would accompany that. If not, then we are looking at a mid-pack finish
Meanwhile, every news station going Omicron crazy. Let's just get through the season with good health for all.

How about pneumonia too ?     The Networks don’t break down the illnesses of everyone in ICU .              And , isn’t it interesting that SH has kids playing who are not Covid vaccinated ?  For that matter , are our Players vaccinated ?  Staff ?        NHL , NBA are already canceling games .    The accuracy of some of the Covid tests are not always reliable . Some test positive 1 day and not the next . Especially the tests that are the Swab ones .

Know nothing coaches picked us 4th pre season.   I am going to guess they know a thing or two about the guys we recruited, the guys who transferred via the portal, and the guys who came back.

My first prediction is that by halftime of the Seton Hall game, at least 2 players will be trashed by name.  By midway through the second half, CMA will be ripped for substitution patterns.

Within 10 minutes of the end of the game, at least 3 posters will predict we are finishing 9th or 10th in conference.

And that's all if we win.    :)

Christmas comes early.
