Big East Prediction Time?

Okay OOC portion is just about done and league play starts in 2 days. How do we see the Big East regular season shaking out? Kind of feels like we’re the biggest mystery in the conference right now. Here’s what I’m thinking:

Seton Hall
Xavier
Villanova
UConn
St John’s
Providence
DePaul
Marquette
Butler
Creighton
Georgetown

I’m buying the Seton Hall hype, Villanova feels more vulnerable than usual and I think DePaul makes a jump for real this season. I think St John’s maybe isn’t the top 3 team we’d hoped for but is better than they’ve looked at times. 6 teams solidly in with a 7th on the bubble. What do you think?

11. Georgetown.                         Based solely on the Season so far , I think your assessment is pretty accurate .                             Many of our fans turn optimism into  a unduly high expectations .                                   When we lost  8 players and they were replaced the Chorus  dutifully reported a near 100 percent upgrade .  Which hasn’t surfaced yet but , we continue to hope .   The masses didn’t figure losing veterans familiar with CMA’s style would be a problem .  It has been .                                     Also too, nearly all our BE opponents have already established Wins over ranked opponents .                                       The 40 minutes of  Hell hasn’t materialized yet . Will it ?       Until the BE season starts , we really don’t know where this Team will land .

From what I’ve seen, the length and depth on Xavier, UConn and Seton Hall put them ahead of everyone else in the conference. Villanova is vulnerable this year and does not have a lot of depth or length. Creighton could surprise if their young players mature quickly. I see us 5th.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if any of Seton Hall, uconn, or Xavier make it to the elite 8. All have the size and star power to do so. I’d bet it’s one of those 3 who wins the league but is it really smart to bet against nova?

Know nothing coaches picked us 4th pre season.   I am going to guess they know a thing or two about the guys we recruited, the guys who transferred via the portal, and the guys who came back.

My first prediction is that by halftime of the Seton Hall game, at least 2 players will be trashed by name.  By midway through the second half, CMA will be ripped for substitution patterns.

Within 10 minutes of the end of the game, at least 3 posters will predict we are finishing 9th or 10th in conference.

And that's all if we win.    :)

It would be a more accurate Coaches Pre BE season prediction if they sampled the League now .  After the OOC games are over .   I’m sure the line up of teams would be different .

The most accurate poll would be if they did it right after the season ended, don't you think?

The poll is designed to get publicity and spur interest about an upcoming season.

Big East Prediction--I am going out on a limb with Covid issues about and schools going to learning on line--we will play 20 BE regular season games

We still don’t who’s who at this point. A team like Michigan that started out top 5, or a team like Memphis that started top 10.. if teams are peaking now… I look for them to fall off towards the mid-back half of BE play.

It’s not like we’ve witnessed a jump from both teams CMA has coached here. I just want to start off conference strong. Still no bad losses as of yet.

If you look at the schedule we need to go at a minimum 3-2 in the first five conference games. Preferably 4-1. If we don’t, it will be a tough season.

Tier 1:  Nova, Seton Hall, Xavier, UConn
Tier 2:  SJU, Providence, Marquette
Tier 2A:  Creighton, DePaul
Tier 3:  Butler, Georgetown

You can throw the Tier 1 teams in a hat and pull them out in any order you want.
Ditto for Tier 2.
Tier 2A could wind up being merged with Tier 2 (which is why it's 2A, not 3)
Tier 3 is likely to have a tough season in this conference.

Villanova - won't bet against. Someone else will have to prove me wrong.
UCONN
Seton Hall
Xavier
Marquette
St. John's
Providence
DePaul
Georgetown - will get better as season progresses
Creighton
Butler

Conference will get the top five in. Then its bubble city. Good luck to us.

I agree with most of what you have listed. However, having seen Creighton play, I think they are better than you have them rated. So, I would put Creighton into Tier 2 and move DePaul into Tier 3 with Butler and Georgetown.

By the way, I watched part of a Georgetown game on TV. If they're worst team in the Big East, we have one heck of a conference from top to bottom.

My only prediction is the conference will get a minimum of six bids, because math.

Top Tier Rankings
1.  Nova
2.  Seton Hall
3.  UConn
4.  Xavier

2nd Tier - not in any order
St. John's, Providence, Marquette, Creighton

3rd Tier  -not in any order
DePaul, Butler, Georgetown

Agree 100% with that. St. John's is without a doubt the biggest mystery, you could put together a reasonable argument for us to be a top tier team BE team or a bottom tier.  We don't have any bad losses at all, but only 1 good win.

Just from watching the BE this year, this is how I think the standings will end up.

1. Seton Hall
2. Villanova
3. Xavier
4. UConn
5. Providence
6. St. John's
7. Marquette
8. Creighton
9. DePaul
10. Butler
11. Georgetown

BE gets 6-7 teams in this year.  Leaning more towards 6.
