Big East Media Day
Like I’ve said before, only other angle I can think of which makes it different was that the prior staff was guilty of violations and NCSU sanctioned. Maybe enough to claim a hardship but we don’t know what angle Steere is using.
Good points that I had forgotten. No clue whether any of that will make a difference, but sure the heck hope so.

Per Daily Dose of Hoops
Kevin Willard on St. John’s: “Mustapha Heron’s as good a player as there is, LJ Figueroa’s as good a player, and Mike Anderson can flat out coach.” #sjubb

Willard has had nice things to say about St. John's in the past as well. Great to hear things we believe confirmed by a competitor.

Willard's 2017 Seton Hall team got bounced by Anderson's Arkansas squad in the NCAA Tournament, so he has some (albeit not much) firsthand knowledge.

Ed Cooley on Mike Anderson: “It’s unfortunate there are so many naysayers like Monte that feels he’s not a good fit. I’m been reading that all the time. Who really is a good fit? Mike is going to do a great job at St. John’s?” #sjubb

Could not resist Mark :)
Et Tu Paultz??? I never said he wasn’t a good fit. I just try to add some balance to this board, and am reserving judgement on CMA. So Ed Cooley can go F himself! lol.

Attended the Media Day. What first got my attention were two tables with four-deep media interviewers surrounding them: one for Jay Wright (which is an annual thing) and the other for Mike Anderson, who handled things nicely. We're lucky to have him. ... Had a brief talk with Mike Cragg and brought up the subject of adding new "legacies" to our original honorees -- one of my pet peeves (as I've frequently posted). He told me that instead of adding new legacies, the school is reviewing the idea of de-emphasizing the legacies and taking things honoring our tradition in a different direction. Didn't want to monopolize his time -- he'd been nice enough to speak with me -- so given the circumstances, I didn't ask for details about what that direction would be. But at least I came away knowing -- albeit regretting -- that they'd no longer be such honors for some of our deserving, all-time favorite Redmen. That aside, I left with a very positive perception of him and appreciated the time he spent with me.
Edit: In retrospect I remember him saying that the Hall of Fame would be where former players would be recognized, rather than hanging jerseys.

Even better to see Lavin in a suit, since I think this was the event where nine other coaches wore suits and he showed up in a track suit.

Really liked what Heron and LJ had to say about being in great shape and having to work up to another level. While we might not be the most talented team this year, it sounds like we may be in great physical shape. I also found it interesting that Seton Hall was picked by most to win the Big East, no one was selected to the All-Big East team. I know Myles Powell is the pre-season player of the year, but that was it...
Really liked what he said about coach but why did he have to go to minority coaches in a big east
Good to see Big East lead.

Maybe I'm wrong, but from what I remember, Lavin was a pretty sharp dresser at UCLA. Could be he wore track suits (or whatever they're called) while he was here because, at the time, he was dealing with "leakage" problems and related issues from his ongoing battle with prostate cancer. I have a number of friends who had to deal with that, and they were all self-conscious about what they wore at the time. So I prefer to cut the guy some slack about his wardrobe selection while he was here. The good thing is he looks great -- and is back to (comfortably) wearing suits.
