Big East Map

We really better have a top notch OOC schedule. We won't benefit from the natural RPI and SOS bump that Cuse, Louisville and ND gave us.

Not necessarily. With the round-robin format, you are looking at more games against better competition top to bottom.

10-8 in the new Big East is still going to carry the same weight as in the old one.

Based on this season, you are still looking at eight games against the top 100 with the holdover schools. All six games against the newcomers are top 100, including four top 25. So that's 12 of the 18 against the top 100, essentially 10 in the top 50 counting Nova at 52.

SJU's current Big East schedule is 12 of the 18 against the top 100, 11 in the top 50.

The only team in the new Big East outside the top 140 is DePaul. And since SJU played them twice this season, it's not like they are adding a terrible opponent like some of the other schools are.

You're implying that Creighton and/or Butler will either be ranked and/or have a strong RPI. I don't want to assume that.

That being said, the hit to our RPI will still be more because of how strong Cuse, Louisville and ND were. We can't replace that in-conference.

I don't want to mess around and become the SEC.

SJU 'should' be Top 4 perennially in the conference.

The consensus #1 team this year was Gonzaga. They play in a two team conference. The new Big East is light years ahead of their conference. St. John's will still be playing Syracuse and maybe Louisville. Losing ND does nothing to our strenght of schedule since I think their basketball will fall off in the ACC as it did at BC. There are just so many smart kids out there with NBA talent to withstand the rigors of classes at ND, BC, Duke.

The new Big East might just become the Superconference of
College basketball down the line. You could see them going to 16
teams with the same profile, schools like Duke, Gonzaga, St. Mary's
St. Louis, etc. I wouldn't want to be UConn or Cincy.

all I know is that the new map has me driving an hour and 15 minutes from an away game at Xavier and not even 5 minutes away from Butler!!!! I still can't believe it and had I known Butler was joining the (real) Big East, I would have contested the marital home (only half a block from Hinkle) or just stuck it out with the ex solely for the games :p

There, my friends, is a true fan!

First of all WV and UConn are no longer in the league so using them as an example is moot and undermines your point. Secondly 2 1/2 hours is not nothing, it takes less time to fly from NY to Florida. There are literally dozens of schools 2 hours east of Depaul that would fit the bill

Your geographical skills leave a lot to be desired and your knowledge of available basketball schools even less!
Gonzaga has a great program WITH Mark Few. My worry would be if he leaves. Flying to the west coast would be a nightmare for all the other sports teams and Spokane requires a stop-over for most schools to boot. You literally lose an eniire travel day to and from Sopkane.
Omaha is a Midwest commercial hub city and Warren Buffett has no problems calling it home. Creigthon has a long history of basketball excellence. They are not Syracuse or Louisville but they have been much better than DePaul or Seton Hall over the years.
There are not many schools with basketball programs left that would light up the TV screens so there are only 5 or 6 schools worth pursuing and not "dozens". Unless those schools included Memphis, Uconn or Temple, the rest would have to be non-BCS schools and the ones already under discussion are the only viable choices.
Finally, had the C7 not broken away and the old Big East stayed stable for the next 10 years, you would be looking at trips to Houston, Dallas and New Orleans....all longer plane trips for all the other sports teams plus trips to central Florida.
You should be thrilled the C7 pulled this thing off! Fox, MSG, and great exposure! I never dreamed it would happen and I was wrong.
" Creighton has a long history of basketball excellence" They have only twice won more than one game, 1962 and most recently 39 years ago in 1974. I agree washington state is too far to travel for any team, the only problem as anyone who has traveled for a living is that it is usually easier to get to the state of washington from the east coast than it is to get to Nebraska, especially in winter. Since you have such a low level for your opinion of basketball "excellence" I would like to change my opinion that there are dozens of schools east of Depaul worth pursuing to "several Dozen". Once McDermott leaves next year it may be another 39 years before Creighton wins in the NCAA again. Would McDermott even have gone to Nebraska if his father wasn't the coach? All I am saying is that the Big East should have learned from it's mistakes, expanding all over the map is not what made the league great, MSG is.

Nothing really to add other than Creighton has been pretty good (as has a lot of the MVC) for the last decade or so. And it's not like Butler was killing it in the 70's, 80's, and 90's.

learn from the past problems were non-Catholic school. VCU would in time be a problem.

Boston College is a Catholic institution and was one of the first to go back around 2005.

Butler is not a Catholic institution and is in the new Big East. The key is to stay away from DI FBS schools. No

I think your objective is to skew the facts and you obviously know nothing about travelling, especially to Omaha or Spokane!
Just compared to our illustrious basketball "excellence" Creighton dwarfs us over the past "dozen" years, since you like to use "dozen" like I use my 9 inches. The Blue Jays have been to 9 NCAA appearances and to a post season pretty much every year since 1999. Something WE wish we had done.
They fill their arena in a basketball crazy city that, if you travel, is a direct flight away from NYC. I flew with my wife to her company's Omaha office on United in under 3 hours. As for winter travel, I have had a harder time getting to Syracuse and Providence since it snows less in Omaha than in NYC!
Some interesting coaching names in Blue Jay history include Eddie Sutton, Willis Reed (who turned Benoit Benjamin into a Blue Jay legend) and Dana Altman, who usually won 20+ games every year.
If you are one of the clowns who mention Siena, Duquense or St. Joe's, I think your notion of excellent basketball schools is on a different level than us provincial SJ fans who thirst for some competitiveness in our away games. I hope we can match the exitment of the home games played at Butler, Creighton or Xavier with more than 8,000 fans at MSG!

FWIW Creighton has also had some very good basketball coaches. Eddie Sutton, Dana Altman Tony Barone and Willis Reed (just kidding though he was a big name hire at the time) to name a few. Interestingly both Altman and present coach Greg McDermott left high major programs to take the Creighton job, Altman left K State and McDermott left Iowa. This if anything shows the schools commitment to growing their program. Now with a major conference affiliation you would only expect that commitment as well as their ability to recruit higher ranked players to grow. They've got a few in the NBA already (or at least recently) in Kyle Korver, Rodney Buford and Anthony Tolliver with Mcdermott to follow. I think they have a lot of potential. As a DMA Omaha is ranked 75th with about 425K in the area so that is an area where it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the conference, though it's bigger than Syracuse but 33% smaller than Providence which is the next smallest market in the new league.

"Skew the facts"? Where. Please point that out to me. I went to United website, they do have one direct flight in three days for $1500. All the other flights have connections, and list their in air time at over 5 hours, when you add in transfer time your looking at over 8 hours travel time. And it's less likely that anyone has ever married you, than you having 9 inches

All the other flights are listed as over 5 hrs in air time, which means over 8 hrs easy. When you took that flight in 3 hours are you sure you took into account the hour you put your watch back because it's in a different time zone. When you mention your 9 inches I'm assuming your talking about your tiny feet.

There are direct flights and it's about 3 1/2 hours of actual flight time.

Name only 6 schools that fit the C7 school profile better than the Blue Jays?
Then name another 6 that would make up your "dozen".
For a guy that wants Gonzaga, you seem to pee your pants about a one hour stop-over in Chicago while your stop-over in Seattle seems no problem in your travels. Between the bus to the airport in NYC and transfers to the plane and bus the Spokane you would be "traveling" over 10 hours! That's a lot of travel for the baseball and soccer teams.
You are right about one thing...I do not deserve my wife.

Look at the bright side. After a big STJ win at Butler you can grab Moose, Mjmaher and a few other happy drunk redmen and toilet paper the ex's house.

I get the feeling Gonzaga is not out of the picture for the BE, They have expressed an interest. Maybe thats why they stopped at 10 teams this year,, to keep the door open for them Having them in the conference would be a big boost. Obviously, however, logistics is a problem..

Class of 72 , must be the year you graduated from a "special ED" school because you obviously can't read, fool.
