Big East Is Still Alive/Hoops Weiss

At the end of the day:

Big East - 4 out of 10 schools in NCAA - 40%
ACC - 6 out of 15 schools - 40%

Yeah, we're the equal of the ACC. Right.

Chill out. Interpret things any way you want. My point was that everyone keeps saying that it's all about NCAA bids and that the Big East is dead. We got the same percentage as the ACC. That's all.

Many of us sounded like broken records when we wanted Norm replaced. Elite recruits believed there was no possible way he could make St John's an elite program. That's why they went elsewhere.

If no one complained, Norm would still be here. Father Harrington was never a basketball fan. To him, there was no difference between twenty wins or fifteen wins per season.

Now the Big East is being run by ten Father Harringtons. Few of the college presidents care about basketball. We can't go back to the days where people spoke about the league the way some talked about what a great guy Norm was and "baby steps", etc. That's what some posters are doing when it comes to the mediocrity here. They're pretending everything is great. Meanwhile, the elite teams tell elite recruits the Big East is mid major. At least posters like Desco admit the league is weak, but he says he only cares about St John's. He's hoping we become another Gonzaga and dominate a crap league so once in a while we'll make a sweet 16. I doubt that'll happen.

My guess is Fox will lean on the league to improve or eventually lose the big bucks. Right now, the presidents and the apparition who doubles as league commissioner are talking about maintaining the status quo.

This conference never got respect in the last two years of its existence even with Louisville, Syracuse and Uconn because of the negative spin machine of the ACC. Now the ACC is the old Big East with 15 teams that will canabilize each other in basketball and be the 6th power conference in football. What I do agree with you on is the danger of the Catholic presidents stunting the growth of the conference by being complacent and the fact that Val Akerman may not be up to the task. That is one of the reasons I want VCU as a member and possibly Dayton or St. Louis. Those are schools that value basketball and have strong administrators.

I don't see any evidence of schools like Villanova, Georgetown, Marquette and Providence dropping their commitments to basketball. Seton Hall is trying hard to compete(cleanly or not). Creighton, Xavier and Butler are crazy about basketball. DePaul seems to be the weak link. I don't see the conference dropping off much but poaching the Atlantic 10 or AAC would be a good way to keep the momentum going.

Bilas is picking Carolina over Providence. He thinks they will find away and control Batts and Henton.
I think Friars will win . I think Carolina is soft., especially McAdoo.

I agree...UNC can't shoot and Providence will play very hard...very underrated team team

PS Bring in 2 POS teams. Top 5 AAC teams got 10 guaranteed conference wins. A10 5-8 depending on schedule. Both those leagues did not play tough opponents night in and night out like the BE did.

Bilas gets paid to pick UNC. Big East has two big ACC match ups. NC State and UNC. Wins would be huge.
