NBA criteria is a lot different than ours in assessing a College player's potential.. Fair had a great early season for the Orange but, with the emergence of Ennis, seemed to tail off late.
Still, don't know why he wasn't drafted.. Much better player than Jakarr, in my opinion.
And, btw , who cares if we finish 5th or tied for 3rd or whatever, if we don't make the NCAA. It's all mediocre without that bid. And, who can forget Robert Morris, even in the off season. It all counts on Lavin's and team's resume. It's in the books for all time.
Fair is like too many other players these days that think they can be a star by just being able to shoot three pointers and throwing down dunks. It's the ability to do the stuff inbetween that gives a player the ability to be a star--the midrange, the ability to get to the rim off the bounce, the ability to drive, draw and dish, etc. Fair could only get to the tin consistently on reckless closeouts or poor defense.
That written, I am kind of shocked he wasn't selected late. He is much more pro ready than Sampson--he was as a soph as well. He can hit the corner three consistently and he is athletic enough vertically to contribute on the boards and be an average defender. He is not a super athlete, though. People need to understand that just because a kid can jump doesn't mean he is a great athlete. Fair has poor to average lateral quickness for the NBA three spot--average at best. That will make things tough for him on defense. Offensively, that lack of quickness is even more glaring because he doesn't have the skill off the dribble to compensate.
