The number 1 is already protected by getting the bye and what part of the bracket they are put it.

I actually think the 12pm start benefits st johns. These kids are pumped after last night and are going to continue the great play from the 2nd half right into this game.

I am predicting a st johns win and it will be because of the hot start we get off to from playing this early tip. Thank you big east!
Early start is a killer for us.
It is. It's horrible the BE doesnt follow the other leagues who would have the winner of last nights game playing the 2nd game today.

On the bright side if there is any team used to playing in front of empty buildings its SJU :woohoo:
It is the way the bracket is that is the order in which they play. So 1 plays 8/9, 4 plays 5, 2 plays 7/10 and 3 plays 6. In that order. Just about every Tourney follows that order.

So because of that order the winner of 8/9 plays 1 the earliest. The issue is they may want to move the Wednesday games to afternoon instead of at night even though the league does not need to because unlike the ACC or B10 they don't have 14 or 15 teams.

For exampe the B10 has 4 games today with 8/9 Rutgers vs Michigan the opener at noon. The winner plays the #1 seed Wisconsin at NOON tomorrow. Just like the BE 8/9 winner plays the #1 at noon today. The difference is the B10 has 4 games today, the BE only had 2 games yesterday. Because of that the B10 needs a full day of games, whereas the BE just puts 2 games in prime time. So the Rutgers/Michigan winner won't have such a quick turnaround.

But it has always been that way, remember when the BE expanded to 9 teams with Pitt in the 80's and played an 8/9 game the night before the QF's same thing, play it night before and the winner come back and play on quarterfinal day at noon against the no. 1 seed. That quarterfinal day use to be the best day. When ESPN had the Tourney final in the 80's the QF's would be on Thursday with semi's on Friday and Championship on Saturday night. Then in 87 CBS got the rights to the semis and Finals. And they moved it up a day. So the QF's use to be on Friday afternoon and night and then Semi's on Satuirday and the Final on Sunday, usually around noon. Then ESPN got it back starting in 96 and then they moved it back a day again.
This is what BE should do. It's pretty simple. Yes there are less games but shifting the already set matchup to 12 and the 1 seed to 2:30 has minimal impact on ratings attendance etc. If anything it makes more sense. The 1 seed is the main event. The other game is the undercard.

Won't move Wednesday opening games from night to day because of all mighty TV contracts but next year will have 3 preliminary round games.

I’m sorry , given the Virus situation , the BE to me looks like the Big Pig and stuck in red tape . Today’s games being a case in point and not just because St John’s is playing the early game . To ask last nights teams to play again in less than 21 hours is ridiculous . Not because it’s always been that way but , because of this Health Crisis . The League could have postponed today’s games until Friday and just pushed back the semi finals to Saturday and the Finals until Sunday , still in time for the NCAA selection show . The extra day would give DePaul and St John’s players another day to rest . And , like the NBA who’s to say last nights players weren’t exposed to the Virus from the attending crowd ? And , even if they refused to do that , why does game 1 have to start at 12 noon ? They could easily schedule both games at 2 pm and 4:30 pm and still not interfere with the Evening games . Why not ? Is my opinion biased ? Certainly to some extent but , this scheduling is nuts . They could have switched the Nova - DePaul and St . John’s games to the evening slots . And put the other games s into the afternoon slots ? It’s a legitimate question to ask .

Sorry but no. You're asking mountains to be moved.
The simple logical minimally disruptive solution is just to play the 1 seed at 230.

You are talking about pushing tournament dates with arenas and tv slots and more. Thats chaos.

Playing in tournaments can be exhausting. It's stressful because you have to win or go home. There's just more at stake.

It's important that Mike's players get this experience in the BE tournament and NIT.

They'll be better prepared next season.

I hope the NIT isn't canceled because it is a valuable experience for all the teams.

Why is everyone so quick to make accommodations for the 9th and 10th seeds? If they didn’t finish last and 2nd-to-last in the league during the regular season, they wouldn’t be in this predicament in the first place.

But , Today , Tomorrow and the Day after , we are in a Chaos World due to this Crisis . Arenas , TV deals , etc should all be equally disrupted by this Pandemic . All the Networks and Cable vendors have broad access to using affiliates and other Network facilities for broadcasting games . Arenas ? MSG is booked exclusively for the BE this weekend , with the possible exception of Sunday . And , as many have mentioned , the OLD BE did a better job in scheduling . Made last place and second to last play a Wednesday night game play in game and proceed from there or , any other more equitable process . It’s not that difficult to extend the tourney to Sunday’ afternoon . The BE was late in having no spectators for the rest of the tourneys games anyway . Just my opinion .

Have they worn the Blue Unis this year (I don't recall)?

TV ratings. Prime time games are always the closest seeded teams.

Like the NCAA tournament. Nobody wants to watch a 1 seed whack a 16 seed but lots of people are going to tune in for the 8 v 9 game.
