BET Game 1- Providence -Thursday, 2:30pm Fox Sports 1

Ok. What do we need to do for a 3-peat?

Score more points. ;)

Seriously though, Providence has 2 top level players. At PC, Henton was good, but we contained Dunn effectively. At MSG, the opposite was the case. As long as both don't go off, we should have a great shot.

Desrosiers is a talented big man, but does not like to get down and dirty physically (sometimes, he seems more comfortable playing on the perimeter). Chukwu is physical at 7-2, but only has slightly more ability then JDR.

Also, Cooley is a good coach, but he seems married to playing the man-to-man defense, which has helped us both times, IMO.

First is to put Nova out of our minds and not worry about revenge. Our singular focus has to be on PC.

They have so much length inside. We have to hit from the perimeter and from mid-range. Any scoring inside will have to come from trnsition baskets and by getting their bigs to foul us.

Also, I've seen several games (including today against Butler) where Dunn did nothing in the 1st half, then played well in the 2nd. We have to focus on stopping him for 40 minutes.

I know it is difficult to beat the same team 3x in a season but I feel we have their number and even if CO and Branch are not 100%, we should have enough in the tank. No shame in losing to 'Nova today, shake it off. Neither game with the Friars was all that close this year, we must be in their heads... Plus we owe them a little payback for last years BET.

LET"S GO REDMEN

I keep hearing about beating a team 3 times. Not just on this board but in general. Are there proven stats behind that?

Give me a team we beat twice any day. We could obviously lose, but Georgetown would be just as tough or worse.

It's pick your poison. All of Gtown, Butler & Prov are all pretty close to the same caliber teams. In any tourney, you have to beat the team you face, so man up and play ball. Go SJU!!!!

Few years ago heard that team that wins the first two more likely to win the third game but forgot the winning percentage.

I'm sure Nova is quaking in their boots at the thought of having to beat us a third time. Sports is nothing if not full of clichès.

Nova probably not quaking in their boots after today's rout 105-68 lol. Granted we didn't have our full team, but nova fans are the most stubborn hard headed a holes in the world

Have to admit, this game scares me. We never seem to get over the hump in the big east tourney

Very excited that I'm off from work and I'll be in the building on Thursday. Very grateful that my boss was very accommodating to me as I requested this week off.

For those of you unable to get out of work I believe that FS1 streams the game from their website - I watched the Seton Hall game NYE from work. It's better to use google chrome though - IE doesn't stream it very well.

Back in the mid or late seventies, we beat Providence twice during the regular season. They got us back in the post season. My recollection was the N.I.T. That Friar team had Bruce "Soup" Campbell. He died too young in 2013. Perhaps one of the posters has a better memory than me, and can post some details on those 3 games.

Really looking forward to a battle with PC. Should be a good one & a welcome respite from the Hatfields & McCoys tenor of the board. :)

Or the Jukes and the Kallikaks.
