Best Lobster Rolls in Maine

Wild Caught Live Lobster $5.77 LB. at Shoprite this week

Had a lobster feast yesterday at the house. Picked up yesterday morning and had a feast. At these prices it was cheaper than grilling steaks and so much more enjoyable. My guests were very happy.

My stomach is growling. Coincidentally the Maine Lobster Festival was this past week. That's on my bucket ( err lobster trap ) list

Bunch of losers... I just spent my afternoon at a house on the water at Kennebunk beach, drinking Tree House IPA's... Which lobster place should I choose?

A little reading helps. The lobster take is way up, but not only because of implementing regulations for harvesting lobsters with size limits, and stopping the harvesting of large females that produce the largest number of offspring. The cod take and population is down 99% over a prolonged period of time, and they are predators of young lobsters. In addition the warmer waters a little bit down the coast have severely reduced lobster populations. Right now Maine is generating 80% of the lobster catch nationwide, and there are concerns about overfishing.

I heard on a radio talk show a few days ago that back years ago they used to serve prisoners lobster 3 times a day in prison because lobster was thought as basically a low level food.

and the first Pilgrims had so much lobster that it became food for only the poor. My grandfather told me that when he was a kid in NY (Queens was largely farm country at the time) lobster was considered garbage fish.

I believe that Native Americans and Pilgrims used them for fertilizer for crops.

back when I was in college a good friend of mine would work summers on his uncles lobster boat in long island sound ( back 88-92 ). Was real hard work. With warming waters brown tides etc that business is completely gone and like the article mentioned previously lobsters have all gone north to cooler waters.

To think I freaking love lobsters and haven't been to Maine yet. Will definitely be taking a trip up that way to do some lobster roll research and go hang with MCNPA up in New Hampshire

I'll settle for the craft beer. Actually though my partner at work's grandson is a drug counselor up in Maine and there is a really big drug problem up there. these companies that own these rehab places are doing really well

Sad to hear that. I went out on my uncle's little boat several times in the 80s from Northport. We always got a good haul. Alternatively we'd throw a rock on the sand to see where the Steamers were and dig em up. Good times. Too bad I was too young to fully appreciate it.
