Bernardi to SMU

Said to be looking elsewhere by Zags now that Doherty has been fired. Anyone know if he would have interest in STJ, if SMU released him from his LOI? He is a 3 star recruit from Staten Island and aparently a great shooter. Not sure if he would have to sit out a year though since SMU is joining Big East.

Big East to Big East is usually never allowed not even sitting out a year.
That being said this will be interesting as SMU wasn't BE when he verballed, I don't think they were BE when he signed LOI and they won't be next year. But they will be down the road and SMU might restrict him from going to a future scheduled opponent.

Also I'd be more interested in Blaise

Likewise, Moose. The kid is 7'1" and not only does he blocks shots, but he can knockdown treys. LOL

I read somewhere where he's hit, as many as 6 treys in one game.

I too would be more interested in Blaise than Bernardi. I'd prefer Carlos Morris to Bernardi.

Blaise sounds like a good fit, but I have never seen him play-is he athletic, does he have good hands? A good rebounder? Anyone out there know?

I really hope Blaise open his recruitment up. I dont remember were we recruiting him before he picked SMU? As for Bernardi I personally would rather have Morris and Hall

We looked at him before. He is a pretty good athlete for somebody with his size, and has a soft touch. I'd grab him just because he has plenty of potential and is smart out there. His height would give lots of teams trouble. Extremely long, even at his height. Not dominant physically, but a really good shooter as a center. Not a star, but a better athlete and shooter than guys like hibbert and Thabeet who helped their teams a lot.

When is SMU coming to the BE? If it is more than a yr away I dont think the 2 yr rule applies

Bernardi and Blaise should be part of the entrance fee for allowing this sorry-excuse of a basketball program into the BE.

There is no 2 year rule. Intra-conference transferring in the Big East is simply PROHIBITED. Period. Not allowed. And that not only includes players already enrolled and playing but also players who have signed a valid NLI with one school and then perhaps seeks a release. That is also part of the intra-conference transfer rule.

It would be interesting to see how the Big East interprets the rule with regards to SMU and even if they allowed it SMU may simply say, "NO." They don't have to grant any release or they can simply grant a conditional release and make it clear that Big East schools are off limits because they are future opponents.

I disagree Fordham. The right thing to do would be for SMU to let these kids go unconditionally. Neither is irreplaceable. They committed to a different coach and conference. Why should these kids be limited in their choices considering the circumstances? Regardless of rules, the right thing to do would be to let this small group of athletes re-assess their bball and academic careers and choose to go on their own way wherever that might be.
