Beach Aficionados

I was lucky to live in Indonesia for 9 months, so I'm bias towards some of the beaches there (Belitung, Gili Mano). Also Zanzibar (Pongwe) and Thailand (Ko Lanta) were terrific. All had great snorkeling trips nearby also. Do think the California beaches (Pfeiffer Beach and Malibu) really stand out to me as well.

Vietnam is on my bucket list so I'd love to check out Hạ Long Bay. Haven't been to Hawaii either.

they do not compare with the beaches in Avalon, New Jersey
Seven Mile Island, a barrier island off of Middle Township, Exits 13 and 10 Garden State Parkway. Bay and sunsets to the west and ocean to the east. North to another nice barrier island Sea Isle City and to the south North Wildwood.

of 7Mile Island, Avalon has 4 miles and Stone Harbor 3 miles, gorgeous beaches, great surf and clean water, what's not to love

On weekends our families went to 103rd Street, Irishtown, the hotbed of Rockaway nightlife where the dancehalls were named after counties—Leitrim House, Sligo House, Dublin House, etc. The entertainers—the McNulty Family, starring handsome tenor Peter McNulty, Ruthie Morrissey and Mickey Carton—traveled up and down 103rd street spending time in each hall, the longer their visit, the greater their fee. Peter McNulty became something of a headliner drawing the largest crowds despite persistent rumors that he wore a girdle under his flashy plaid cummerbund.

Have you ever been to Cocoa Beach. The Olympic Gold Medalist for surfing, Caroline Marks trains here regularly and is from the Melbourne beach area. There are also many surfing completions there. While certainly not the huge waves in Hawaii, good enough for world class surfers to surf on.

In terms of judging beaches, beaches should be judged by the quality of sand, clarity of water and to some extent accessibility. New York, beaches fail in comparison when it comes to those measures. I guess many on this site have not been to many quality beaches to make some of the comments above. Hell, I use to think that Coney Islad was a great beach till I went to Jersey.😂I visited Montauk recently and never saw a beach with such filthy sand.

When Rick and the players arrive in Nassau, Bahamas, they will get to see what a quality beach is like. 😎👍 With or without Lobster Rolls. 😂😂😂😂😂😂
Cocoa beach is no different than any of the NY/NJ beaches😂 The only reason people can surf is because there are no barrier islands to break up the waves like in South Florida.

The fact that NYC has beaches at all is crazy. That’s what you’re missing. I don’t think most people even realize that outside of the northeast. I knew people in NYC that didn’t even know that.

The kicker for me with Rockaway is the sunset over Jamaica Bay too.

Here are a few random photos I took while my son and nephew were doing sprints and running routes at Beach Channel High School.

I literally told someone in my building about Riis two weeks ago. She is from DC and thought the only beaches we had were Coney Island, which I actually do think is gross. I'm really happy about the relatively new ferry system. I hope it brings more people to places in the city.

The beach on Isle of Palms (Wild Dunes) is also a nice one.

Yeah, I've stayed and played there a few times. I was going to post my favorite beaches were the 18th at Pebble, the 3rd at Mauna Kea and the 6th at New South Wales Golf club, but I do try to stay out of the sand at all of them.

The worst public bathroom I've ever been in was in Coney Island a few years ago. I still have nightmares.

I go for the Cyclones, not the beach.

but also eating Indian food in 85 degree weather at a bachelor party was probably one of the dumbest things I've ever done. lol.
I’ve seen some dumb things written but this might be the worst . Kudos to being the worst of the worst. You are The Mullin timeout pic 😀

Needed to do the SoCal thing and just build a mound of sand around you. Though maybe people don't do that anymore. 😁

Can I slip in a plug for Rehoboth Beach. Nice beach, beautiful town, excellent restaurants. Only bad thing is all the security when Joe Biden comes to town
Too much traffic regardless of Biden, for 2 months. But great outdoor concerts ,great food, parking a ripoff.

Yes you can. I worked one summer at a small hotel there and had a great time in the "Nation's Summer Capital". Except for the cook, we were all under "legal age" so he was kind enough to buy what we needed. I was the only Yankee and learned to drink Sloe Gin and Coke. we were out on the boardwalk virtually every night and the beach every day after breakfast to about 5PM. Great friendly town and great stories about some of the interesting folks who came down for the weekends from DC.

4 pages of beach posts from a bunch of probable NYers and not one mention of Gilgo?? Easily my favorite beach on Long Island. Might not be the Hamptons, but best vibe beach for sure, you got the ol Inn and decent waves usually.

I don’t travel enough to say what the best beach is but we go to Sandbridge Island every summer, which is technically VA Beach, but is actually about 20-25 minutes away from the city proper and is quite secluded. There’s no hotels, only week-long rentals and the waves are perfect some days, the water usually mid-70s and dolphins in the water with you. Plus. Never crowded.

Edit: we went to Maui for our honeymoon (wow) 18 years ago now, and stayed at the Marriot in Wailea and that was one gorgeous beach I would love to go to again once more in my life but…no waves. I need waves at my beach lol. Looking at a google map, I guess it’s Ulua Beach.

To be fair, Gilgo has already received a lot of attention lately…

What's everyone's favorite beach that they've visited?
Actually my favorite is beautiful white sand 7 mile beach on Grand Cayman Island. Then again, I love calm turquoise colored waters with visibility in 20 feet of water. Believe it or not, some of the worst beaches on earth, if you even want to call them beaches, are in the Florida Keys. My wife and I once took a road trip down there expecting to do some nice shore line snorkeling and it was awful, what a dissapointment.
