BE POY

I love the way Ponds frequently comes down with a rebound amidst taller players.

Ponds. Marquette won without Howard. We got beat by DePaul at home without Ponds. Marquette doesn't need him to be good.

Howard couldn't cover me. He doesn't rebound either. Ponds does it all.

I really love the way he beat the other girls to the bride's bouquet!

Ponds is 1.1 offensive and 4.7 total for his career. Howard is .4 and 3.1.

This season over 26% of Howard's rebounds came in three games and most of that was the first two games of the season v. Betune Cookman and some other scrub. His current 4.0 average will continue to fall like it has all season.

Ponds will stay right where he's always been and finish with 20% more rebounds.

If you want to talk about numbers on that level then the game Howard left after 3 minutes due to injury would increase numbers even more.

Do you think Howard is a good rebounder? He's not. The only difference this is teams are clearing out and posting him up more. Any misses are his.

There is not one coach in the league that would say Howard is as good as Ponds on the glass. Ponds routinely goes up and gets boards in traffic and rips 50/50 balls from bigger players.

Ponds will be POY if St. John's finishes in top 3 of conference. Right now Howard has the edge because of the success of Marquette.

Still too many games to be played which could change individual full year performance of any of the top 4, but based on performance to date I agree with Class of 72's analysis that for Ponds to win SJU has to finish in top 3 (or 4).

People love flashy numbers and unfortunately Howard has a lot of them. Shamorie is still the better overall player.

I'm amazed how 1.5 more rebounds makes your statement so definitive

I don' think that because of stats man...it's the eye test. You invoked the stats by saying that I must not think Ponds is a good rebounder either (what does that statement mean if not that they are close in stats this year).

Ponds could average 8 boards a game if he had to. He's got elite hands...the best I've ever seen in college and he has superhuman awareness to get to boards and loose balls (and steals and deflections).

Ponds is better than Howard in every single area of the game except shooting. Howard is a ridiculous shooter and it opens up the rest of his game. Ponds is a better PG, better passer, better athlete, bigger, stronger, better post player, better driver, better rebounder, and better defender. Howard is a much better shooter.

And for the record, I don't think Ponds is a good defender, but he's still better than Howard.

I've known you for a long time. But your posting of late is so over the top. Some of the superlatives you are throwing out there are so shock jock esque. To each their own I guess?

Hahaha

What do you take issue with? I think Ponds is the most skilled player in college. The unfortunate thing is that he just doesn't have the physical attributes the NBA wants. I've maintained since before they played in college that Ponds was the better player between him and Heron and since they've been in college that Ponds was better than Howard.

Maybe Ponds and Heron will be back next year. (Tongue in cheek)
How about a further Assessment after last Night’s game ?
Booth is the favorite I would think. Ponds still with an opportunity if he keeps winning and playing great. Also outplay booth in the matchup at MSG
How about a further Assessment after last Night’s game ?
Shooter of the Year - Howard

Player of the Year - Ponds

Howard on anyone is a mismatch. Ponds isn’t Gary Payton on D, but he’s never a liability. Ponds abused Howard at every level when Howard got switched on him. They play the same position. Ponds looked just fine covering him. That’s game, set, match.

The coaches vote, right? Are you allowed to vote for your own player??

I feel like Wojo would vote for Ponds after the two matchups. McDermott probably Howard since Howard dropped 50 on creighton. It’s hard to tell

Ponds by far should be the favorite, but i think we need to finish the strong for him to win and my only fear is he has been very chippy all season so not sure what the other coaches feel about him.
