For whatever reason, some teams take longer to gel. It may seem exclusive to SJU but it’s been that way for all since the modern era. Frustrating at the moment yes. Let’s see where we stand when it counts most.

In the Pitino era the answer seems pretty clear: massive annual roster turnover plus very specific and structured demands (and demanding ones!) that most players are not used to and need time to adapt to.

Not sure why this preoccupation with the guards rebounding? Honestly Zuby killed us last game. Between Zuby, Hopkins and Mitchell should get 22 a game and we would be fine.
Because our defense has bigs out on the perimeter guarding and contesting shots so our guards rebounding is important to that strategy.

Massive annual turnover is the current landscape and a given if we want to compete moving forward. In a perfect world you retain players that fit your style but it’s a two-way street. Players have a right to earn more $ and playing time than what is being offered.

Last year RJ, Kadary, and Deivon all had better defensive rebounding rates than Zuby.

Sellers is only one in that vicinity from this group of guards wings. Darling is solidly ahead of Hopkins at the moment..

Throw Bryce directly in the mix of guys needing to pick it up on the defensive glass.

I don't disagree at all (although my hero Shaka Smart does). But my point was that the roster turnover COMBINED with the particular demands Pitino has for players combine to create slow starts.

Smart is starting to hear rumblings about his lack of portal combat.

If we are able to get a win today, we will be playing a good game tomorrow.

Smart move by Mitchell to get it a -1 at the buzzer.

Why would I include Michigan? I never would have included Marathon Oil when talking about good performances in the past.
agreed.

I've seen lots of posters mentioning that were 0-3 against top teams, but Michigan was an exhibition and no one looking at our resume will ever take that game into consideration. The Bama loss was rough because it was home, the ISU loss was rough because we should have won and were the better team.

We're going to come out and win emphatically today and then win tomorrow.
