Hard to believe this is not an April Fool's joke

Common practice by a lot of kids today, at least he did not split for Europe, Asia forcing Ponds into the interior rotation. :)

Good for him! Unlike many, I think he is reasonably improved this year.

Good for him! Unlike many, I think he is much improved this year.

Honestly, why wouldn't you do this as a junior? It doesn't hurt and we all know he is coming back. Hopefully they tell him to be more of a team player.

A player who plays half a game for a Div I expansion team (us) will test the waters... let's see...hmmm...waters...the Gowanus canal? Flushing bay?
Anyway and seriously, he'll likely play right where he played (here) and I'm sure we all wish him a successful season! There's time to test the waters AFTER a productive 2017-18.
And you Bashir are capable of a very productive year!!
Go Bashir!
Go St. John's!!
:)

If he has any chance of being drafted he's going to leave. Being a back-up behind Simon will probably hurt his NBA chances more so I don't blame him for taking his shot.

Sidenote: Simon has to be crazy nice for Bashir Ahmed to consider this. He probably realized he wasn't going to beat Simon for that starting role and went all in.

Zero chance

The only team that would draft him is the Knicks...........

And with the 7th pick of the 2017 Draft the New York Knicks select B.....No not even as a joke.

So you're saying that BA isn't good enough to beat out Simon for the starting job, but he'd be good enough to get drafted?

I wouldn't be too sure about BA losing the starting job. I can see him playing some 4 as well as the 3.

I think this is a good thing. They will tell him exactly what we needs to improve which will likely match up with what the coaches have told him he needs to do. Then, he will have the summer to work on these things.

Do college players even watch the NBA? If they did, they would see how good these guys are. BA will start next season, and contribute And it's nice to dream. But the NBA? Europe and China I can see, but the NBA is just so tough.

Even if you start Simon, Can't play Lovett,Simon,Ponds and Clark 40 minutes a game. Bash will get plenty of PT.

I said IF, Keyword IF.

Bashir will not be a backup to Justin. Finding the best team is not simply a question of finding the best starting 5 but rather finding a rotation that works best. My guess is that at least for his first year playing St. John's will take advantage of Simon having the size, athleticism and IQ to play all 3 perimeter spots. I expect for at least the first season he will be a kind of super sub who will see starters minutes without starting. I hope it also means that we will not see the "three smalls" lineup w/ Ponds LoVett and Mussini. A 3 guard lineup looks better and defends better when one of them is 6'5"

I expect Simon to be the starting point guard.
There will be plenty of PT to go around, but if someone is a super sub it will be Lovett.

Can't see any scenario in which Lovett is not our starting pg. if that's not the case, expect another long year.

This is absolutely the right move for any junior who is looking at a professional career. Why not have the best talent evaluators in the world critique your game? I hope he makes the most out of this potentially great learning experience.

IMO when Lovett and Simon are playing together it would be with Simon being a sort of Point Forward looking to get Lovett and/or Ponds or others to score. This makes more sense even since Don Nelson is credited with developing the concept of a point forward.
