Auburn, Wed., Nov. 26, 8:00p, TruTV / 880 AM

That Auburn game showed that Berry lacked the size and strength to play inside vs top competition or certainly the pros and although the player of the year in college he fell to fourteenth in the draft. Walter had great moves around the basket and a great touch from up close but no outside shot.
Looie promised to play him more outside if he returned to SJU where he might develop an outside shot but Walter took the bucks. I don’t think he would have been able to develop an outside game but he had a great career at SJU. His problem was he stopped growing in his early teens.
Seemed to recall Walter was either sick or had a sprained ankle or something. While with San Antonio Berry averaged 28 points in a 3 game playoff series against the LA Lakers. He could play at an NBA level but chose to play over seas to make more money. (Not saying he would have been great as apparently wasn’t being offered more money by NBA to keep him there).

Yes, St. John's star player
Walter Berry re-twisted a previously sprained left anklein the game just before his team's 1986 NCAA tournament matchup with Auburn.
Berry initially sustained the ankle sprain during a regular season game against Boston College on February 8, 1986. He fell heavily and re-aggravated the injury during St. John's first-round NCAA tournament victory over Montana State. The ankle was iced immediately after the Montana State game, and while his trainer expected him to play against Auburn, it was clear his ankle was bothering him.
In the subsequent second-round game against Auburn, which St. John's lost 81-65, Berry acknowledged his ankle was an issue, but refused to use it as an excuse. Some sources indicate that he was not 100% healthy for the game, which, combined with Auburn's defensive strategy and the strength of players like Chuck Person, contributed to the Redmen's defeat.

If we lose it's possible we'll still be ranked, but honestly I wouldn't want to be. We'd be 4-3 with only one notable win.

I agree that if we win we'll probably stay at about the same spot, maybe a slight increase.
I have a sense Baylor and Auburn will both be "on the right side of the bubble or slightly better than that" teams but nothing signature like prior years. Ole Miss would be same caliber of win. Those are the type of wins you'd hope the Big East would offer in droves, but you really don't have that at all.

Alabama and Iowa St were #1 or #2 rank caliber resume builders. Kentucky is TBD. I can see their stock shooting if JQ plays & Lowe is healthy; I can also see them being a bust.

Box score via Dave, starter minutes for SJU 👀

Berry played agaist top competition in a stacked big east. He was injured.

I wonder how fatigue will be a factor in this one. Third game in as many days for both teams. St Johns game ended earlier yesterday so the team has a few extra hours of rest. Minutes seemed to be pretty spaced out the first two games two.
Should be more of a factor for Auburn as they don't spread out the minutes as much as STJ. That's a good thing.

Must win, not for our season prospects, but for my sanity.

We don't have a game for 10 days after today. I do not want to go into that long of a dry stretch off a loss.
Yea it’s this years version of the Georgia game. We had like two games in two half a weeks after it last year and the stink of that game was on us for awhile. Today is a huge game

"The event has expanded from eight teams last year to 18 this year, and the plan is to expand to 32 teams in a three-week format next year. Seth Berger, the CEO and founder of the Players Era, told ESPN there will be four eight-team groups. Two of the groups will play three games during the first week, while the other two groups will play three games during the second week. The four group winners will return for the third week and play one more game, either the championship game or third-place game."

"According to sources, the Players Era aims to become an NCAA tournament-like event in November that will feature the best teams in college basketball. That ambition could include a new format and games that take place outside Las Vegas in the future. Its changes have already impacted other Feast Week events because of its rapid growth and payouts. Expansion in the years ahead will limit the number of available elite teams for other events within the sport as the Players Era event moves forward."

Embrace change. The uncertainty is good.
