Auburn, Wed., Nov. 26, 8:00p, TruTV / 880 AM

This is a collection of very good to excellent players, but they do not play well as a team. Their passing is not crisp, and when they catch the bell, they do not protect it; It is too easily stolen, many times right out of their hands. Their three point shooting is still unreliable. Some more threes tonight might have made the difference. We do not have a decent point guard. Tonight it was Auburn vs Ejiofor; Ejiofor was brilliant. This team is not hungry. Play Ayo, Tomba and Lefty; they ARE hungry. Last years team was more impressive. Maybe with the Portal, the new attitude is, we got the money who cares about the rest, you know: SJU pride, alum pride, OLD alum pride.

I have been in agreement on this from the beginning. The way we approached recruiting our backcourt was extremely flawed.

my issue is fans are just emotional and lashing out at darling like it’s his fuckin fault our coach and GM picked up a PG from Idaho state and said let’s roll with him and no one else
Flawed is charitable. To call Jackson and Sanon redundant would be an understatement.

Also, Pitino won’t shut up about the length difference of the SEC, but he brings in two undersized 4’s to deal with that? Hopkins is 6’6, couldn’t defend Frank the Tank from Barstool, and he butts heads with Zuby more than Marillac does with Fordham96. They are like Siamese twins out there.

This roster is bizarre from top to bottom.

I agree there is a redundancy issue on the roster. Zuby and Hopkins occupy the same space; Mitchell also spends time there which is a complication despite his unselfishness.

Sanon and Jackson are also redundant.

Meanwhile there is no PG and the only non-redundant player on the roster is Sellers - and you could make an argument that he's duplicative of Sanon and Jackson in some regards.

Tough

So we looked good last night against an unranked team and then tonight, like I said the other night, we lose to another ranked team. So maybe not completely same old Johnnies, but if we can't beat other ranked teams it's pretty close.

Still hoping we find a way but...

If we are honest with ourselves. The team has no identity. On paper, tons of talent. But no cohesiveness, no real grit. We may ride hollow enthusiasm for stretches of the year, but what we are right now is round of 64 material at best.

This was not a good performance at all tonight, especially in the second half, but three games in three days can produce a poor effort sometimes. Look, you can analyze all of this to death but making blanket statements about a team's potential in November is often folly. Over our past two years Pitino has shown that his team's play improves over the course of a season. With eleven new players on the roster, there was always going to be a huge learning curve with this bunch. Are there some red flags thus far? That certainly seems to be the case at this point, but November games are not always projections of what happens with teams in March.

I remember lots of early on criticism of Kadary Richmond last year and Daniss Jenkins the year before and by the time our season was completed the consensus was that they were huge contributors to our success. Is there someone on this current roster (who is currently getting bashed) who will be the reason we turn it around? That is distinctly possible.

I will wait and watch this all play out and, unlike some others, will hold off on passing judgement on the fate of this team yet.

Someone go pull receipts from after the loss to Georgia last year. Anyone who said we won’t make the tournament following it for us to then get a 2 seed should be reminded how early the season is. It would have been great to win this game and we should have. Come March we will be a 4 seed at worst.

People become stubborn as they age.
St. John's were winning the Arkansas game, but Pitino didn't use RJ in the final five minutes when it was down by only two-points, which ultimately resulted in a loss.
Pitino was winning the Iowa State and Auburn games, but he failed to capitalize on foul trouble of the opposing teams, and ultimately losing.
We really need to judge whether pitino is making the right decisions to win the game these days.
I must have been watching a different game. When were we winning?

Shower thought. Wouldn’t mind seeing Prey eat into some of Dillon’s minutes. The Point-Forward thing with Dillon isn’t working and an argument can be made that Prey is equal or better than him at everything except running in transition. Especially when we need the rebounding

Im far from giving up on this team and season.

But the real bummer for me right now is I don’t enjoy this team. I don’t like watching them play. None of the body language is good. Nearly the entire roster is comprised of guys whose games I just don’t really enjoy. A lot of street ballers who don’t wanna play as a team.

Pitino has his work cut out for him this season
