Attendance Moving Forward

For those who have not yet come out to one of the home games, there are 4 games left before conference play begins (5 if you count the "neutral" site game at Barclays). You should really come out & give this team the support it deserves. This team is playing with heart & it shouldn't matter whether you like the coaches, or whether you think the group is not that talented. It should also be noted that the students will be on break for our first 3 conference home games. We all know how important a good start in conference play is after last year. Lets give Carnesecca Arena & MSG the buzz that a true home court advantage needs. Just remember the rules, come early, wear red & make noise.

The islanders are he classic proof that if you win they will come. If we get ranked the casual fans will show.

No argument there. Truth is that I hope there are fans who will come because this team deserves it, whether there is a number next to their name or not.

As a season ticket holder, the strength of schedule/legitimacy of some of the games is, i don't know if i'd say "tough to get to" but it's not all that appealing to head to CA to watch FDU or Long beach, etc. Regardless I will be there, I just know I am not the only one who is tired of such crap games on our schedule.

Edit: Fordham-SJU in the last few years has fallen smack damn in the middle of finals week also, would be nice if they made it earlier or later to attract a larger student crowd

I'm not so sure that Long Beach St is a crap team. Don't be surprised if they, along with St. Mary's, give us quite the game.

Good sentiment NYC!
I don't like it when people blame the fans for bad attendance. But the team is winning and we have a group of players now that we've seen develop over the years. It's an easy bunch to root for, especially since we've gotten to know them pretty well since they've been here for so long. Continuity is rare in college sports these days.

So I think it's a great idea to try to rally the fans. I hope the athletic department has some extra money in the budget to do some midseason marketing. If you run the commercials and put up the bus ads after the team is on a little bit of a roll... I think you could see alot of people at MSG in January and February.

I think you hit the nail on the head with St Marys. They'll be dangerous.

Speaking of the athletic dept, check out what G'Town does when their students are on break.

"the Hoyas are debuting a new promotion this season: the ‘Student-for-a-Day’ promotion. For both games, the school has set aside 150 of its typical 800-seat student allotment to sell through a Living Social package"

Like I have stated before, these games are on every team in D1's schedule. It isn't just something that we do as a program. As for calling them "crap" games, I would be careful. St. Mary's received votes in last weeks poll just like us. Also, Long Beach St. is a good team that will give us a test. While they aren't schools of major conferences, they are necessary for our OOC schedule and will be good for our RPI.

The game during finals week is because of the timing with the holidays. They rather have a game during finals week compared to multiple games during Christmas/New Years along with the conference games that start then. I think we have done a great job with the schedule this year, with games that will test us and get us ready for a tough conference schedule. The schedule was also spread out very well. Rarely do we have more then two games during a week which gives us plenty of time for rest and time for preparation.

Syracuse had a "disappointing" crowd of a shade under 25,000 for our game. Their big games usually draw 32-33,000. Would love to see Carnesecca at or near capacity and the garden draw at least 10,000 per for rest of season but it might take a little more winning for that. We could be ranked but still think Tulane at Barclays would only draw the usual 1,000 die-hard Johnnie fans.

"Dis appointing crowd" of 25,000? LMAO! This Syracuse team will draw close to 30,000 only for Duke and Louisville. Expect 25000 to be the norm in the ACC. They will make TV money but have lost their soul. All for the sake of their shitty football team.

BTW, this was the largest attendance for a Syracuse game this year thus far.

Not much else to do in Syracuse in December

His there a team in the country that only schedules top 25 teams for its OCC schedule? This argument about why we schedule crap opponents is stupid. Also, Fordham and Tulane are tournaments. We are always in the Holiday Festival. As for tourneys in Barclay's, we should do as many as possible.

UCLA ------ THE GREATEST Basketball program ever. Still waiting for Austour's views on the UCLA attendance dilemma. ;)

Maybe we can get a top 10 list of things to do in Syracuse by OTIS.

We're getting a bit off topic here but since the UCLA student thing was mentioned, has anyone seen the "I believe that we will win chants" that takes place at SDSU and Utah St games (probably other places as well). I think this is a soccer chant but as you can see it's pretty cool at a college basketball game.

Sorry, didn't know you were waiting for me. UCLA suffers from being in Los Angeles. You can almost always get tickets to Pauley no matter how good the team is because 99.9% of Angelenos don't care about any sports. Pauley's not a place to be seen ergo not many casual fans there. The new NFL team will likely work as well as the Rams and Raiders as well.
