Since the "Mullin Accepts" thread is locked, I'll post this info here. "St. John's Basketball Supporters Invited To Chris Mullin Welcome Reception on June 9th the New York Athletic Club ."

The price for attending the welcome reception is $500 per person and $5,000 per table. An Assistant Coach Package is available for $15,000 and includes a table of 10 and a St. John's assistant coach seated at your table. A Head Coach Package is available for $25,000 and includes a table of 10 and St. John's Head Coach Chris Mullin seated at your table.

Any takers? Don't all rush in at once.

they better hire more coaches because right now that would be only 2 tables at that package

Definitely upped the costs from the Lavin welcome reception.

Might have to try and sneak this one by the wife.

Bobby G., who I believe reads here, jokingly said at the Mullin press conference that he read in one of the St. John's blogs that the writer believed that attendance revenue would increase by $3,000,000 next season, and that he hoped that was true. Going to this event is as much to support Bobby G's bold move of excising Lavin for about $2 million, and spending another $1.5 to pay Mullin.

I'm thinking about it. If I do, I'd look forward to meeting you.

$500 for a dinner? This includes groceries for the next month too, right?

I may attend.....will have to do a bit of a sales job on the wife.

I will defer to CPAVIN , but I believe you can take the amount over fair market price and write it off.

In other words, if you pay $1,000 for you and your spouse, and fair market price for a dinner for two is $100, you can write off $900.

Vin?

That's correct - but Don't forget that you receive value through the open bar too.

I am tempted to go but just paid for a cruise for the family this summer and just received details on a family reunion in Virginia.

I'm probably going. If it was any other coach, probably not. I'll make sure to defer some of the cost through that 1.5 hour cocktail hour.... :p . I'm off from work the next few days anyway to volunteer at rhe LPGA championship so I may as well start the week off that way.

I think that cost is the same as the annual pre-season dinner also at the NYAC but not the same cost as the Welcome Lavin one, which I believe was zero to attend (but I could be wrong on that one).

You are correct. They usually break it down on the invitation as to what part is tax deductible. I'm sure that they could provide you with the information ahead of time if you ask them.

At these events, SJU assigns a fair value for the event and will send you a tax deductible receipts for the balance.

Or, there's always the option to start a new thread.

These things are fundraisers to support the school and the program. Obviously I'm not trying to spend anybody else's money, but for those who have the means you can view it as an opportunity to put your money where your mouth is. If you want a grade A program, then you have to support it the way other boosters support their grade A programs. If you don't, then you really shouldn't complain about the lack of on-court success. The two go hand-in-hand.

There are other opportunities to support the program at a variety of financial levels. For one, consider joining the Red-White Club: http://www.stjohns.edu/athletics/red-white-club

Will you be attending? That might push me over the edge (of not going), as don't want you to criticize my speeeeeeeeeeling.

Also have the Albano package - If you pay $2,500 you can sit with a table of 10 and have Sammy Albano sit at your table.

I can't believe that for what, a million years, I thought your handle was a vague reference to Corey Pavin's win at Shinnecock. Now that its pointed out I just can't help laughing at myself. Too obvious.
