Article On Who We Should Keep Playing

I agree with Summit and STJ11Redmen. We should play at least four or five locals every year -- some combination of Fordham, St. Francis, Columbia, Iona, LIU, Manhattan, Hofstra -- to go along with one or two "national" opponents plus whatever tournament we play in.

I'm not sure why anyone should deride our rivalries with these local schools. Have we seen some of the dreck on our non-con schedule this year? UNC Asheville? Florida Gulf Coast? NJ Tech? Holy Cross? In the past few years we played Charleston Southern, UMES and several other forgettables. I'm not sure how the locals would be worse than those schools, who bring nothing to the table in terms of local interest.

Obviously, Syracuse has to be a annual game in the Garden. I'm not sure we have to give them home and home on a rotating basis. They will play very little in the Garden, post BE conference and should jump at the chance to play here due to their strong alumni base in the Metro AREA.

Duke should also be a every year game, rotating back and forth from MSG to Cameron is ok too. I'd love to see Indiana too, on home/home basis every year. Crean is building a perennial top 10 program and is classier than Kentucky, who has turned into a Memphis Clone under Cal.

Former BE teams like Rutgers, Pitt, WVA, NEED NOT BE EVER SCHEDULED! Uconn? I'd only play them infrequently and only at MSG, never Storrs.. We really don't need them in the future..

I'd also play Gonzaga regularly in the Garden.Maybe as part of a Doubleheader with Syracuse or ND. Butler would be good too but, they may be part of the new league anyway.

UCLA IS ALWAYS GOOD TOO, BECAUSE OF Lavin's history there.

Locally, we should play Hofstra, Manhattan, Fordham,IONA, etc on a regular basis. We don't need the UNC-Ashevilles, NJIT,Florida Guilf Coast, etc.

Going forward we should schedule a top 10 strength of schedule every year and, not fear playing anyone.

ND? Of course, it's usually a W and the game should be on a Sat or Sunday, not a Tuesday nite. Get all those subway alumni to the game and the Garden could be rocking again.

Syracuse alternate home and away games looks like a done deal, so that is an easy one.

I would love to see Duke back. Kansas, UCLA, Michigan are other schools that should be in the conversation.

I would rather keep looking for Manti Te'o's girlfriend than adding Uconn, Rutgers, Cincy, and Pitt to our schedule.

I love the way the cuses, pitts and nds talk about loving to come to MSG to play. They have a lot to loose if they don't. It will hurt their image and recruiting not being in the Garden. Let's face it MSG is surely going to schedule cuse every year for some kind of game, see Temple, so their obnoxious fans will get to see 'em. Why should we give them another opportunity to come in here proclaiming they're NY's team.

There are plenty of other big fish out there. Kansas, Kentucky, UNC, Duke, Mich. St., UCLA, Arizona, to name just a few. Bring them in here for a home and home or let MSG arrange some tournament, heck why not reinstate the Holiday Festival with a big time school along with two or three locals.

I agree that games against teams like Fla Gulf Coast, UNC Asheville, etc serve no purpose
We should play 3-4 games each year, on a rotating basis, against locals (ie; Fordham, Hofstra, Stony Brook, etc)
We should play in a competitive tournament each year (ie: Pre-Season NIT, Maui, Bahamas, etc)
We should play 3-4 games against "quality" national opponents each year (ie: Duke, Indiana, Gonzaga, etc)
I would like to see 2 year home and home contracts so that we would play a variety of top teams
We should play schools from all of the major conferences on a rotating basis as we did before the Big East began
I have no interest in playing Syracuse anymore
If we play them at the Carrier Dome or at MSG, it's a home game for them

A man with a plan!

IMO, forget playing too many locals. It is a no win scenario. If we play 5 locals, it becomes as if we are a MAAC team as wee will practically have a conference schedule of local teams. I think 2 locals is plenty on a rotating basis or whatever. No more.

Regardless of whether ou have interest in playing Cuse, it is still one if theist compelling matchups in the Garden that we could possibly schedule. It's the battle for NY and a sellout. We have to pay them.
